Hatch is seeking a Regional Director – Oil & Gas to join our growing office in Houston, TX. This is an opportunity for a high energy, self-managed individual to work on diverse projects and technologies for local and global clients. This is a senior leadership position, and the candidate is expected to have strong process experience, ideally having worked at an engineering and technology consulting firm.
The Regional Director will report to the Global Director and will be part of an engineering team providing engineering services covering all project stages including pre-feasibility, concept, FEED and some detailed engineering for both minor and major projects. The work is varied and stimulating, covering greenfield developments, brownfield upgrades and operations support, onshore and offshore. The scope of works will be both in the oil & gas sector as well as the growing energy transition sector.
The Regional Director will oversee and guide the development of process engineering deliverables ensuring they meet the projects scope, are delivered on schedule and budget, and meet Hatchs quality standards. The role requires the engineer to develop solutions in all areas of the process plant across various systems, unit operations and process equipment. In addition, the Lead Process Engineer will liaise with other disciplines to ensure the process intent of the plant is maintained throughout the design life.
Key Responsibilities
Execute technical feasibility studies, conceptual design, and process design and studies.
Collaborate with project team to achieve project objectives. Interface with other departments, project managers, engineers, clients, and vendors during all phases of projects to ensure a good working interface.
Study and project management with direct responsibility for meeting quality, schedule and cost requirements
Interfacing with clients through progress meetings, presentations and site visits
Performs most assignments independently. Receives technical guidance from the Process Manager on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed plans for projects.
Be responsible for process team management, including hiring, career management and Hatch culture nurturing, watching for occupation and chargeability for all of them based on experience, skills and interests and coordinate with the global process leaders the resource management.
Technical management and supervision of engineers performing process and multi-discipline studies
Participate and/or lead development and maintenance of expertise in specific areas
Assisting less experienced process engineers in developing their process engineering skills
Act as Process lead on projects where will be responsible and assist in the development and review of all the standard process engineering deliverables through the full project lifecycle:
Technology licensor packages review and selection methodology
Review of operating and capital cost estimates
You bring to the role:
Qualifications and Experience
15+ years of professional experience in the upstream or Downstream oil and gas onshore sector, ideally with a background in working for consultancy organizations executing conceptual, FEED, PMC and EPCM scopes.
Degree in Chemical Engineering or Process Engineering from a recognized University.
Professional Engineering license is preferred
Fluent in English (written and spoken).
Experience with technical studies, FEED process and systems design experience including piping and instrument diagrams, cause and effect diagrams, hazard and operability design reviews and systems support services.
Working knowledge of detailed design project (EPC and EPCM) execution for oil & gas, chemical and/or power industry clients.
Knowledge of federal/provincial safety policies and procedures along with general understanding of International and Canadian American codes and standards.
Highly numerate with a good working knowledge of the company and international codes and standards, including API, ISO, ASME, ISA, Shell DEPs, BP GPs etc.
Experience in industry standard software such as HYSYS, Unisim, Flare System Analyzer, Pipesim, Phast, Flaresim, etc.
Experience in onshore gas processing, technical process safety studies for oil and gas production facilities.
Experience in energy transition scopes including hydrogen, CCUS, decarbonization and biofuels.
A keen interest in emission reductions, energy transition and willingness to expand expertise is a must.
A high degree of understanding of interdisciplinary dependencies related to the discipline would be an advantage.
Proven client relationship management and business development skills.
Experience in preparation of technical and economical proposals for clients
Experience in managing and executing feasibility studies, FEED, and EPCM engagements.
