What You Will Do
Operating in a Research Analyst role, the successful candidate will serve as the main point of contact for Insights’ clients across the utility and connected DER industry. They will also be primarily responsible for building and maintaining a portfolio of research and analysis aligned with clients’ needs. This role aligns to the Consultant level and will play a lead role in growing Guidehouse Insights’ utility and DER industry profile as well as acting as a primary research point of contact for US utility key account teams.
The successful candidate will bring utility and technology specific expertise and a general understanding of the impacts of emerging technologies, services, and competitive threats as well as relevant policy and regulatory issues facing the industry. This is a high visibility role and the successful candidate will be expected to speak confidently and intelligently about industry trends and challenges, including decarbonization, decentralization, and digitalization transitions.
Acting as the primary point of contact for clients and developing excellent client relationships, this role will actively participate in proactive business development initiatives, manage inbound client requests, and coordinate responses across a matrixed team organization. The candidate should demonstrate the flexibility to pivot and respond quickly to a dynamic and evolving company culture and broader energy transition landscape.
Specific Responsibilities Include
- Market research and insights (~50%)
- Engage clients and key account leads to identify key trends and industry developments
- Collect, synthesize, and translate information from varied sources into cohesive commentary on the market size potential and impacts of Energy Transition solutions and decarbonization technology trends
- Develop roadmaps for future utility focused research
- Author, content review, and publish high impact finished reports
- Oversee the development of quantitative analyses and market forecasts
Client advisory (~25%)
- Be the main analyst point of contact for a portfolio of client accounts
- Shape, price, and deliver custom advisory engagements with clients
- Project manage the delivery of research solutions for client advisory engagements
- Collaborate with colleagues across the Guidehouse platform expand client opportunities
- Growth and Thought Leadership (~25%)
- Develop and execute a growth strategy consistent with practice level and firm-wide goals and objectives
- Build and maintain a network of global contacts across the energy transition and innovation space
- Conduct regular interviews with representatives of the industry stakeholders
- Market subscription services and expertise via press interactions, conference presentations, contributed articles to industry publications, and blogs
- Work with business development staff to grow client relationships and client base
- Support targeted thought leadership campaigns to drive Guidehouse brand eminence among utilities
What You Will Need
- Bachelor’s Degree in journalism, business, economics, engineering, or related discipline
- A minimum of one to ten (1-10) years relevant industry work experience including relationships with relevant industry players. Work experience in human resources, healthcare, public health, pharmaceutical, or medical research is not applicable.
- Relevant work experience must include one to three (1 -3) years consulting work excluding internships, co-ops, fellowships, or academic course work.
- Acts as a role model for continuous learning and development and challenges others to reflect and learn.
- Strong self-management. Takes on high commitments and works to achieve results despite setbacks, showing resilience in the face of challenges and in the pursuit of improvement.
- Proven track record of client management and account growth.
- Exceptional MS Office, writing, presentation, and interviewing skills.
- Solid quantitative analysis, ability to create market models and forecasts using assumptions gleaned from research.
- Proven analytical, critical, and creative thinking skills.
- Strong experience with project management and budget oversight.
- Due to nature of client engagements, US Citizenship restrictions apply.
- The successful candidate must not be subject to employment restrictions from a former employer (such as a non-compete) that would prevent the candidate from performing the job responsibilities as described.
- Must currently reside in the United States
- This role is a Hybrid role which will require you to go into the closest GH Office as needed or on occasion.
- The salary range for this role may vary based on relevant degree, work experience and physical location at time of hire
- Level of hire will be determined through Guidehouse interviewing process
What Would Be Nice To Have
- Master’s degree in journalism, business, economics, engineering, or related discipline.
- Management consulting experience in utility consulting organizations excluding Oil & Gas.
- Preference will be given to candidates who reside within a reasonable number of miles of a Guidehouse Office
