Our team within Guidehouses Energy, Sustainability, and Infrastructure practice works with public and private sector organizations to promote the achievement of climate and clean energy objectives, including deep decarbonization, climate resilience, and driving positive social impact. We help clients navigate the complex world of climate change, braiding together climate policy and planning, legal and regulatory frameworks, authentic community and stakeholder engagement, and detailed analytical approaches to develop and implement the next generation of climate actions and spur the clean energy transition, from high-level plans to detailed operational and business models. Our team also supports customers in a wide variety of markets, including financial services, energy providers, and life sciences, where we apply leading frameworks (e.g., Science-Based Targets, Net-Zero, ESG, and TCFD, etc.) and create innovative digital, programmatic, and financial solutions.

Our Climate Policy Managing Consultants provide wide-ranging support for client engagements. They organize their own and the teams tasks and schedules, working on multiple projects simultaneously. They manage project teams, including having responsibility for client communications, project schedules, divisions of labor, architecting analyses, and overseeing team dynamics. They are responsible for developing teams and individuals through coaching and feedback, promoting a culture of excellence. Many of our Managing Consultants also provide deep subject matter expertise in one or more areas and serve as a resource to others.

THIS POSITION IS TARGETED SPECIFICALLY FOR EXPERTS ON CLIMATE POLICY. THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE SHOULD HAVE SOME EXPOSURE TO OR DIRECT EXPERIENCE WORKING IN LOCAL, STATE, OR FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.

The successful candidate will lead teams to grow the Guidehouse sustainability consulting practice and deliver meaningful change to our clients.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Tailor our decarbonization and sustainability offerings to specific clients

  • Provide content expertise and corporate insights on a daily basis

  • Lead project teams on engagements in partnership with Directors

  • Be active in the delivery of projects (we are looking for team players who roll up their sleeves and work with teams, not people who just want to direct)

  • Develop an internal network to pull in resources from across our global team

  • Build and maintain relationships with clients

  • Maintain a strong external profile

  • Stay up to date on topics relevant to clients (especially on topics related to specific sectors we serve as well as relevant reporting agencies, frameworks, and regulators)

  • Be active on a local or global internal initiative to contribute to the team and culture; be a role model for consultants

They demonstrate advanced technical and subject matter capability and continue to gain credentials that are recognized and valued at our company and within the industry. They actively support key pieces of business development, sales activities, and identifying new business development opportunities both within and outside client engagements. Participation in industry and networking events is expected and encouraged.

What You Will Need:

Experience

  • Minimum of 5+ years plus of relevant experience, excluding Internships, Co-ops, and Research Fellowships

  • Minimum bachelors degree

  • Experience in the energy/sustainability/climate space, especially in the public sector

  • Experience in large organizational environments will be helpful (we are looking for someone who understands the key functions of and dynamics between different departments and how to develop relationships across them to meet sustainability objectives)

Expertise & Skills

  • Expertise in several (not necessarily all) of the following:

    • Development and implementation of policy and/or regulations

    • Management of federal grants

    • Stand-up and/or management of large programs

    • Analysis and/or modeling of greenhouse gas inventories, clean energy technologies, macroeconomics the energy transition, etc.

  • Effective communication through climate storytelling

  • Adaptability to learn a variety of industry sectors and potential climate drivers/issues

  • Ability to lead teams to create executive-level presentations with insight and impact

  • Fluency in English

  • Agility in presentation storyboarding and development

  • Strong communication skills within the project team and at the board level

  • Clarity in business writing

  • Ability to lay out an analytical project approach and carry it forward with a team

  • Demonstrated success working within high-performing teams

Logistical Considerations

  • No sponsorship available for this role

  • Must currently reside in the United States (ideally near a Guidehouse office)

  • Ability to travel

What Would Be Nice To Have:

  • Experience in consulting, especially at a large firm

  • Masters/MBA

  • Ability to oversee data-heavy work

  • PMP certification

  • Additional languages (e.g., Spanish and Portuguese)

  • Familiarity with and demonstrable experience in one or more of the following:

    • Environmental and sustainability policy

    • Clean energy / economics (e.g., hydrogen economy, advanced energy technologies, electricity power and gas industries)

    • Greenhouse gas accounting standards, circular economy, GHG abatement strategies, etc.

    • Corporate sustainability protocols (e.g., SBTi, TCFD, ISSB, ESG, etc.)

    • Federal program management (especially grants management)

    • Social equity and environmental justice

    • Risk management, accounting, economic and financial impact analysis

    • Innovation (e.g., advancement of new ideas and technologies)

The annual salary range for this position is $109,100.00-$163,700.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
