The Manager of Distributed Energy Resources (DER) will play a crucial role in advancing GPEMC’s renewable energy initiatives. With direction from the VP of Engineering & Operations and senior management, this position involves managing all aspects of GPEMC’s DER program.

Scope of work:

Project Development and Execution: Lead the development of DER projects from inception to completion, ensuring alignment with member EMCs’ goals.

Engineering and Design: Develop preliminary system designs, create design and equipment standards, and perform engineering review of final system designs.

Financial and Performance Analytics: Utilize financial modeling and performance analytics to optimize project outcomes.

Stakeholder Communication: Engage effectively with member EMCs to understand and support their DER objectives.

Solicitations and Evaluations: Manage new project solicitations, conduct bid evaluations, and oversee contract negotiations for renewable energy services.

Expert Support: Provide expert guidance on residential and commercial renewable energy programs, competitive C&I projects, and local distributed renewable and energy storage projects.

Strategic Planning and Reporting: Contribute to strategic planning and provide routine reports on activities, member engagement, and project progress to senior staff.

Industry Knowledge: Stay informed on national trends, industry changes, and legislation impacting renewable energy and utilities.

Job Duties:

  • Manage the origination, development and negotiations of new distributed energy resource projects and services to support member EMC interests. This includes but not limited to Power Purchase Agreements (PPA’s), EPC activities, and end-use EMC products & services. Services could include the developing, promoting and supporting end-use pricing, Renewable Energy Credit (REC’s) programs and supporting the implementation of EMC Member initiatives and programs.
  • Maintain strong relationship with member EMCs to learn their interest in renewable energy projects and services and effectively communicate and promote GPEMC programs and services. Provide technical support for SPARK, member training, and educational outreach efforts.
  • Manage the engineering and design activities to support project execution and implementation including early-stage development and interconnection activities associated with DER. Provide technical direction and manage design standards creation, equipment selection, and vendor selection.
  • Manage the operations and maintenance activities and performance analytics for existing and new DER projects to ensure optimal performance. Effectively manage the CMMS platform and maintenance contractors and provide operational and cost tracking reporting to senior management.
  • Remain up-to-date on current state and national trends, news & events regarding renewable energy impacts on utilities, competitive industry changes, and state/federal legislation and regulations that may affect Green Power EMC and the EMC’s.
  • The role will help provide technical direction for GPEMC support staff and will be required to work closely with and provide support to GPEMC Contracts Administration to ensure project success.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science or technology related field is required. Masters Degree, P.E. license, and/or NABCEP certification is an advantage.

Experience: Minimum of ten years of experience in project management, renewable energy development, energy/environmental policy. Experience with a utility/energy company is preferred. Experience managing projects with a medium to high degree of complexity and scope. Experience organizing and leading business meetings as well as representing energy companies in corporate environment and executive management is preferred. Knowledge or experience with renewable energy resources, especially solar energy generation, is preferred.

Equivalent Experience: Candidates with a technical degree plus 15 years of directly related experience may be considered.

Licenses, Registrations, and/or Certifications: Valid driver’s license that meets the insurance eligibility requirements under Oglethorpe Power’s Driver Qualification Program.
