Role Overview
We are seeking a Senior Financial Project Accountant to join our Accounting Leadership Team. In this role, you will drive project-based accounting initiatives across the organization. You will interact closely with the Project Finance team, FP&A Manager, and the general Accounting Team. Your work will involve a holistic approach to GAAP financial statements, financial audits, and critical project-based accounting, including Service Contracts, EPC, Construction, and Lease Accounting, supporting our growing nationwide utility-scale renewables portfolio. Experience with Lease Accounting (ASC842) and reviewing project contracts for monthly revenue recognition reports (ASC606) is required.
Responsibilities
Take ownership of project-based financial reporting (monthly, quarterly, and yearly) and journal entries (balance sheet and income statements) involving multi-entity structures.
Cost Tracking And Performance Measurement
Work at the commercial level with EPC Project Managers to assess and track project costs, measure performance towards critical renewable project development milestones, and ensure smooth operational workflows.
Capitalization And Accounting Initiatives
Lead capitalization implementation accounting initiatives in coordination with Project Development and EPC Teams, covering project leases, contracts, debts, expenses, accruals, account reconciliations, and deposits.
Project Contract Accounting
Play a key role in project contract accounting requirements and compliance through the development of project-based financial reporting packages, loan draw request packages, debt service coverage reports (DSCR), cost variance analysis, and cash flow forecasts.
Revenue Recognition
Lead revenue recognition assessments based on Lease Accounting ASC842 and Revenue Recognition ASC606 requirements.
Qualifications
Experience:
5+ years of corporate finance and accounting experience with GAAP principles.
Must have experience with Project-Based Accounting (Project Development, EPC, Construction, Service Contracts, Leases).
Certifications
CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CMA (Certified Management Accountant) highly preferred.
Technical Skills
Expertise in QuickBooks or similar financial accounting software.
Advanced proficiency in MS Excel, including macro/VBA writing capabilities, data queries, and pivot tables.
Financial Acumen
Strong understanding of financial statements, financial reports, and financial reviews (account reconciliations, accruals, deposits, contracts, capitalization, and leases).
Solid knowledge of financial debt agreements and debt service coverage ratios (DSCR).
Communication
Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex financial concepts clearly to both internal and external stakeholders.
Industry Knowledge
Experience with financial reporting and accounting initiatives for EPC or Construction operations.
Experience with renewables (solar, wind, battery storage, or energy storage projects) is highly desirable but not required.
Understanding of national energy power market tariffs and incentives is beneficial but not required.
