Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in designing mechanical components for electromechanical systems.
  • Skill in translating high-level requirements into physics-based models and performing design trade-offs.
  • Capability to model and design various types of heat exchangers for energy-dense ESS applications.
  • Expert-level CAD modeling with detailed attention to assembly construction.
  • Ability to create detailed 2D drawings utilizing Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) standards.
  • Experience in conducting 1D tolerance analysis and designing fixtures/methods to qualify first articles.
  • Collaboration with the Power Electronics team to package energy-dense elements using advanced manufacturing techniques.
  • Working closely with the Manufacturing team to ensure all mechanical designs are optimized for production.
  • Designing experiments and analyzing results to inform and drive design decisions.
  • Eagerness to learn more about lithium-ion battery systems.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and presentation skills.
  • Ability to prototype baseline designs using typical shop tools.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of mechanical design experience with either product design and/or test equipment in energy storage, automotive, or consumer electronics.
  • Experience in creating and modifying complex 3D models and complete 2D drawing sets in SolidWorks or Creo Parametric.
  • Able to do fundamental engineering analysis without the aid of application specific software.
  • Experience with different manufacturing techniques such as castings, injection molding, overmolding, coatings, composites and rapid prototyping.

Nice to Have:

  • Must have working knowledge of ESS, traction battery packs or High voltage experience in non-battery setting
  • Experience with different type of Li-ion chemistries at cell level or battery level is a plus
  • Have owned a product in the past from concept to manufacturing as lead engineer preferably in packaging of power electronics
  • Participation in Formula SAE (FSAE) or similar projects
  • Ability to conduct literature reviews to incorporate cutting-edge solutions

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
