Cell evaluation and characterization Engineer

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and characterization of lithium-ion cells, performing experimental testing to understand their performance and reliability.
  • Acquire, process, and analyze experimental data to determine cell electrochemical performance and thermal behavior
  • Build and test electrochemical cells including half cells, three-electrode cells, and full cells, applying techniques such as Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS), Galvanostatic Intermittent Titration Technique (GITT), Differential Voltage Analysis (DVA), and Destructive Physical Analysis (DPA).
  • Support various testing procedures, including cycle life and calendar life testing, as well as abuse testing to ensure the safety and longevity of our cells.
  • Perform electrical, mechanical, and thermal characterization of cells to understand their behavior under different conditions.
  • Assist or lead the development of new instrumentation for cell characterization, including electrochemical characterization, to enhance our testing capabilities.
  • Work closely with various teams within the company, including pack engineering, software engineering, and cell development to ensure alignment of objectives and key performance requirements are met.
  • Assist in performing competitive analysis to stay abreast of industry trends and advancements.
  • Assist in creating and supporting documentation of FEPS products for its internal use and its customers

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical Engineering or Phyiscs Preferred
  • Experience with electrochemical testing of lithium-ion batteries, fuel cells, capacitors, or similar energy storage systems
  • Background in working in a laboratory environment
  • Experience with electrochemical test equipment such as potentiostats, gloveboxes, and cell cyclers
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Proficient with MATLAB/Simulink software suite
