Role Description

Form Energy is hiring a Staff Materials Engineer to join our world-class Anode Design and Performance Team. Our Anode Design and Performance Team brings together experts in Materials, Battery, Test, and Process engineering to understand, design, and validate Form Energy’s iron negative electrode (i.e. anode).

This role reports into our Manager of Anode Design and Performance. As part of our Anode Design and Performance Team, you will characterize, test, and create specifications for new iron electrode materials and processes in collaboration with our Supply Chain, Research & Development, Anode Manufacturing, and Cell Engineering teams. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape and be part of the growth of a fast-moving company with breakthrough technology and an incredible mission!

What You’ll Do

  • Prioritize safety as you carry out the entire electrochemical testing and battery operation process, ranging from the design phase, to implementation, and finally to post-test investigation

  • Lead project teams to develop new anode materials and processes
  • Design, execute, and interpret anode and cathode electrochemical tests in large- and lab-scale test vehicles and Form Energy field-deployed batteries
  • Characterize electrode materials pre and post-test in collaboration with our internal material experts and external vendors. Develop characterization techniques where needed
  • Mentor, guide, and support team members with your expertise and practical experience

What You’ll Bring

  • Master’s Degree with 7+ years of industry experience in electrochemically-focused materials engineering, PhD with 5+ years industry experience preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in building property performance relationships for battery materials
  • Hands-on practical experience with electrochemical systems, particularly in deployed and/or market-ready products.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills: ability to communicate at all levels of the organization from executive-level to working teams
  • Experience with experimental design and statistical software such as JMP or Minitab
  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy, or a related field, PhD preferred
