Role Description

We are looking for an exceptional senior manufacturing engineering leader to build a mission-driven team that will enable high-volume manufacturing for our new classes of battery technology.

The Senior Manager of Manufacturing Development will play a crucial role in advancing battery assembly processes from prototype to high-volume production. This position requires a strategic, hands-on and empathetic leader who can build and guide a team of manufacturing and process engineering experts to conceptualize, validate, and implement cutting-edge manufacturing techniques. You will build and lead a team of manufacturing & process experts enabling development and scale up of the most challenging manufacturing processes.

As a senior leader of our manufacturing engineering organization, you’ll have an exciting opportunity to develop a new class of battery manufacturing processes and chart the path to high-volume.

This role will be located at Form Factory 1 in Weirton, WV, which is just a short drive outside of Pittsburgh, PA

What You’ll Do

  • Build and lead a team of manufacturing experts that will develop new battery assembly manufacturing processes from prototype to high volume manufacturing.
  • Develop a strong partnership with product design & R&D teams to drive DFM/DFA, process control & simplicity considerations to enable high volume & cost targets.
  • Responsible for conceptualizing, developing, validating & stabilizing innovative manufacturing processes to enable scale manufacturing.
  • Engage actively with vendors to ensure Form is selecting the right technology at the right level of automation at the right price from the right partner for the scale and level of maturity of the line in question.
  • Define, develop, and implement metrology and quality control methods.
  • Own the process of handing off stable manufacturing systems to operations teams.
  • Drive PFMEA and OEE considerations as far upstream in product development as possible.
  • Densify, reduce non-value add, and achieve significant improvements from one iteration to the next.

What You’ll Bring

  • 10+ years of manufacturing experience in automation, plastics, welding or assembly
  • 4+ years of experience building and leading a world-class manufacturing engineering team.
  • Experience in championing Design For Manufacturing (DFM) & Process definition with product design & R&D teams.
  • Expertise in driving process & equipment development to enable high volume manufacturing.
  • Experience designing & building automation for high volume manufacturing applications.
  • Experience in championing the effective transition of the manufacturing systems to the operations teams.
  • Experience line design, installation, commissioning, and production ramp.
  • Experience owning the design and development of custom manufacturing equipment via internal teams and in partnership with equipment suppliers and automation vendors.
  • Demonstrated experience driving down manufacturing costs while maintaining or improving product quality for complex electromechanical assemblies.
  • B.S. or higher in mechanical, manufacturing, electrical engineering or physical science(s).
