Job Description

Are you ready to build America’s clean energy future with the team that will deliver? Form Energy is an American energy technology and manufacturing company. We are pioneering a new class of iron-air batteries to enable our electric grid to run on renewable, reliable, and affordable energy, every day of the year.

Form Energy has been recognized by TIME as “One of the Best Inventions of 2023” for its battery technology and by MIT Technology Review as a “Top Climate Tech Company to Watch”. We are making rapid progress on our mission of delivering energy storage for a better world, and are growing just as rapidly to meet demand. Our team has more than doubled in size in the past year, and continues to expand every day. We have signed contracts with leading electric utilities across the United States. Pilot production of our iron-air batteries has already begun, and later this year, production will take off to high volumes at our new factory in West Virginia.

Working for Form Energy is more than just a job, it’s a chance to be part of something extraordinary. And right now might be the most exciting moment in the company’s history to join. Feeling energized to make a meaningful impact on the world? Then keep reading – you’ve come to the right place.

Role Description

Form Energy is seeking a Senior Process Reliability Engineer to improve the reliability and lifetime of our iron-air enclosures and deployed systems. As part of our Reliability team, you will work closely with the Systems and Project Engineering teams to develop test plans, analyze data, perform failure analysis, and define critical design requirements for fluid process systems. This role will require hands-on work in the lab and cross functional collaboration to evaluate, analyze, and propose design-for-reliability solutions to new and poorly understood problems and gain confidence in our product lifetime.

What You’ll Do

  • Design, execute, and analyze experiments internally and at external labs to evaluate failure mechanisms and their acceleration factors
  • Closely partner with design owners to de-risk and down-select next-iteration enclosure and system design concepts and translate high level product requirements into functional reliability and lifetime requirements for components and subsystems
  • Serve as subject matter expert on design for reliability best practices for critical design challenges (e.g. liquid and gas handling, seal reliability, fan and pump wearout) and review vendor reliability data for off the shelf components
  • Champion for safety, especially in the development of new laboratory processes and cell designs

What You’ll Bring

  • 5+ years hands-on experience working with product development, failure analysis, and hardware reliability
  • Academic degree in reliability engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science, or a related field
  • Experience working hands-on with and strong fundamental understanding of liquid and gas process systems and equipment
  • Experience working with hazardous chemicals with acute awareness of safety
  • Proven experience developing reliability test plans and data analysis packages and demonstrated ability to share reliability concepts and methods with product engineers
  • Familiar with developing accelerated life tests for materials and equipment like valves, pumps, fans, tubing, filters, and instrumentation
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration and communication skills within a group of peers and the broader organization, including remote team members
  • Experience with statistical data analysis software such as Minitab, JMP, Python, or Tableau
  • Experience with Reliability software a plus
  • Proven experience developing maintenance plans and supporting design for maintainability efforts a plus
