Overview:
Excel Engineering is currently seeking an experienced High Voltage and xEV Battery Test Engineer to work in Mt Ayr, IA and/or Van Buren Twp., MI. Test Engineers work as an individual and in teams to carryout highly technical testing of battery packs, modules, HV drivetrain, and Energy Storage Systems for some of the world’s leading vehicle OEM’s, battery manufactures and suppliers.
The ideal candidate is a self-starter, motivated by solving problems, and exceeding customers’ expectations. The Test Engineer will set up, maintain, and operate tests. Responsibilities regularly include: •Device Under Test (DUT) preparation •Test rig operation/testing •Fabrication/set-up of test fixtures •Performing lab test procedures •Diagnosing/troubleshooting electrical systems / batteries / drivetrains •Creating test procedures.
Essential Functions:
1. Maintain / operate DUT benches, associated equipment and instrumentation
2. Perform as a Project Manager ensuring timelines are met, and customers are informed / engaged
3. Consistent effective communication with customer engineers and co-workers
4. Recognize and initiate discussions on project scope creep
5. Organize information and equipment
6. Set up production and prototype propulsion system, vehicles, and instrumentation
7. Provide test support for complex tests without significant assistance from others
8. Ability to competently, and safely carry out multiple tasks, tests, projects
9. Proficient in creating automated tests using test cell software
10. Support facility issues affecting test cell operation
11. Proficient time management skills demonstrated by working on organizational objectives (e.g. 5S, Safety, Capability improvement) during project downtime
12. Perform work according to organizations SOP’s and ISO procedures
13. Complete all work in a safe manner, being responsible for proper use of equipment, PPE, and work methods, as well as promoting a safety mindset
14. Performs day to day maintenance checks / housekeeping on projects
15. Attend meetings as required
16. This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but leadership is expected to help, coach, and work with teammates associated with similar projects
Education/Competencies/Skills/Experience

7. Ability to understand xEV / ESS and related systems operation, testing, and repair
8. Ability to learn operation of test cells and equipment
9. Ability to learn effective use of all types of electronic troubleshooting and repair equipment including: oscilloscopes, multimeters, current probes, signal generators, frequency counters, spectrum analyzers, through-hole and surface mount soldering equipment, crimp tools
10. Understanding of mechanical measurement devices and instruments used in measuring temperature, pressure, flow, etc. and their use
11. Ability to learn how to wire electrical systems such as instrumentation power supplies, controls, sensors, actuators, VFDs and motors
12. Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, assembly drawings and technical data sheets
13. Proficiency with machine tools, including drill press, band saw, sander, etc.
14. Proficiency with hand tools used in engine / driveline maintenance
15. Knowledge of welding and fabricating
16. Able to be trained in equipment operation: forklift, boom lift, scissor lift, Telehandler, etc.
17. Competency in computer software including MS Office suite, test cell control software and complex combustion measurement equipment. (Cyflex, engine communication software, FileZilla)
18. Education Requirement: 4-year Bachelor’s degree in technical related studies OR Licensed Electrician with Associates degree
19. Work Experience: Three (3) – ten (10) years required in technical and / or project management roles preferred, but on the job training is possible with the right candidate.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
