Job Description
esVolta seeks motivated and energetic candidates to join our team as a Project Manager to support the development of several sequential utility-scale battery energy storage projects from early-stage development through project notice to proceed / financial approval.
The Project Manager will report to the companys VP of Pre-Construction. The Project Manager will work closely with the Project Developer during the development process and ensure a proper handoff to the project team during late-stage development. During development, the Project Manager will manage the early-stage project design, cost estimating, cost controls, risk evaluation, schedule development, and contractor selection culminating with turnover to the EPC execution team. The Project Manager will be ultimately responsible for the setting up the project schedule and budget. The Project Manager will collaborate with multiple other teams including the Development, Engineering, Procurement, Project Controls, Finance, and Legal during project development.
Key Responsibilities
- Overall responsibility for developing the project schedule and budget.
- Manage engineering consultants with support from the engineering team during project development, permitting, and initial design.
- Support project objectives by reviewing and approving project engineering proposals and design documents during pre-construction and construction.
- Responsible for maintaining a fatal flaw and risk log, identifying mitigation opportunities, and assigning responsibilities and assigning personnel to tasks with definitive due dates.
- Responsible for preparing and managing EPC project development activities through NTP including project studies, constructability reviews, and initial project design, tracking to major project development milestones throughout and reporting monthly on schedule variances.
- Responsible for preparing bid documents for contractor and subcontractor selection including scopes of work and work schedules.
- Responsible for supporting the procurement of owner supplied equipment.
- Responsible for facilitating project meetings with the project team, maintaining meeting minutes, identifying task responsibilities, and assigning personnel to tasks with definitive due dates.
- Responsible for supporting development project status reports and budget requests on an as needed basis for internal management review and investor/board updates.
- Responsible for ensuring project design is in compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
- Responsible for preparing the initial project budget with project finance, including monthly updates on project estimate changes and budget variances.
- Conduct due diligence on potential sites, evaluate the suitability of identified sites and participate in due diligence review, analysis of various reports (i.e. site, environmental, engineering, geo-tech).
- Ensure proper turnover of projects from Pre-Construction to Project Execution is provided and support as required to ensure no gaps in coverage.
- Support due diligence of technology, suppliers, and potential M&A opportunities.
- Responsible for maintaining a risk register to identify, communicate, and mitigate key risks throughout project development.
- Incorporate lessons learned from project execution teams.
Quality Assurance
- Confirm project cost estimates and schedules have execution plans based on achievable project metrics.
- Document control including management of all EPC project contracts and consulting agreements.
Safety
- Collaborate with HSE team in developing and executing site specific safety program and activities.
- Participate in and contribute to project planning and hazard analysis.
- Maintains safe and clean working environment by enforcing procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Maintain operational knowledge of construction safety, OSHA, ANSI, NFPA, and other applicable standards, regulations, laws, and procedures.
- Serve as resource for safety issues or concerns for all project team members.
Skills and Qualifications
- 10 years project management experience in power delivery, substation, transmission line, interconnect, renewable energy or energy storage preferred.
- Familiarity with applicable standards including IBC, NFPA 855, CEC, CFC, IEEE, NEMA, NEC, OSHA, and UL.
- Familiarity with battery energy storage design, construction, and commissioning preferred.
- PMP certification a plus.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel, Primavera, Microsoft Project, and Smartsheets.
- Superior communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills, including an ability to maintain calm and effective exchanges by all parties during stressful situations, and executive level reporting that ensures timely action and decision making in time-pressured scenarios.
Compensation
The annual salary plus bonus range for this position is listed below. The actual salary and bonus offered will depend on the specific skills and experience of the selected candidate.
Senior Project Manager
Salary $150,000 – $180,000
Bonus 20-30%
Project Manager
Salary $130,000 – $160,000
Bonus 20-30%
Location
- Flexible; option to work-from-home with periodic office visits for in-person engagement or to work from company offices in Newport Beach.
- Willingness to be remotely based and ability to travel to company offices and project sites.
