Entergy’s Power Generation group operates a fleet of more than 30 owned, leased, or operated natural gas, coal, oil, hydro, solar and petroleum coke plants, with a total engineering capacity exceeding 20,000 megawatts. Entergy continues to build or acquire megawatts from new hydrogen capable natural gas units, solar, wind and other technologies to complement its existing megawatts of nuclear, natural gas, coal, oil, hydroelectric, and solar facilities.

  • This position will be filled as a Maintenance Operator (MO) Helper 1, 2, Operator 1, Operator, or Operations Technician (OT) based up on the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate. *

Job Summary/Purpose

Responsible for maintaining equipment on utility Steam Turbines and Generators including continuous monitoring and understanding of the equipment’s normal operating parameters & limits. Utilize maintenance skills to perform repairs and overhauls of plant equipment. Troubleshooting faulty equipment, assisting in job planning and cost evaluation.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Responsible for performing maintenance functions on equipment throughout the facility which includes rotating equipment, manual and control valves, understanding power plant systems, starting and stopping of equipment, isolating and restoring equipment for maintenance following a Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO) procedure and monitoring boiler water chemistry equipment.
  • Uses elementary principles of mechanical measuring devices, instruments, controls, and regulating devices as used in generating plants.
  • Troubleshoot, identify, and make repairs to the plant equipment including performing preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Applies knowledge and experience with principles of operation and function of steam boilers, turbo generators, pumps, heaters, steam traps, piping systems, pressure and level regulators and their controls, and auxiliary systems.
  • Comply with all Fossil Safety Processes/Practices, Utility Group Safety Process, Environmental policies/practices, participate in the Monthly Safety Meeting, and open to participation on the Safety Committee or the Awareness Team.
  • During unit outages, provide contractor management, quality control, cost management and schedule management.
  • Interface / communicate with internal and external organizations/customers (dispatchers, directors, contractors, etc.).

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Education:

  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent work experience.
  • Preferred:
  • 2-year technical school degree with emphasis on ICE Technician skills or equivalent work experience.

Minimum Experience

  • MO Helper I – MO: 0 – 2 years of experience in Operations or similar field. Entry level with a background in Process Technology/Instrumentation
  • OT: 5+ years of experience as a MO or equivalent process operator experience.
  • Preferred:
  • Industrial experience.
  • At least 5 years of ICE Technician experience.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience in turbine generator overhaul, fan maintenance, valve repair, pump overhaul, machining skills and other plant mechanical maintenance.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Knowledge of the elementary principles of mechanical measuring devices, instruments, controls, and regulating devices as used in steam electric plants.
  • Knowledge of the principles of operation and function of steam boilers, turbo-generators, pumps, heaters, steam traps, piping systems, pressure and level regulators and their controls, and auxiliary systems.

Any Certificates, Licenses, Etc.

  • Successful completion of the EEI POSS/MASS test.
