The successful candidate for Senior Manager, Real Estate will have proven success managing multiple projects and supporting development efforts in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, with a focus on growing and leading a team of subject matter experts. Location will depend on the focused region of your expertise and may be remote, or near an AES office. The role requires the ability to manage a team of analysts and project managers focused on management of all real estate deliverables needed for development through construction, including financial closing(s) for multiple renewable energy projects throughout their region. The manager works with their cohorts in their region, the larger team, and a cross functional team including origination, project development, legal, finance, engineering, construction, and other project stakeholders.

The role requires the ability to manage, retain, and grow a team, work on multiple tasks and special projects and includes travel to offices within the US. The successful candidate will be a strong and compassionate leader, and able to develop relationships across a large functional team that includes origination, project development, legal, finance, engineering, construction, outside consultants, landowners, customers, project stakeholders and utility companies.

Strengths You’ll Need

  • 10+ years of experience in the renewable energy field (solar, wind, battery energy storage).
  • Experience leading teams of highly skilled SMEs.
  • Exceptional organizational, communication, decision making, problem solving, analytical and time management skills.
  • Team player with strong initiative, ability to work autonomously to complete and delegate tasks.
  • Proven track record as a credible, reliable subject matter expert for team members in technical matters.
  • Expert knowledge of commercial title and survey related work including review, negotiation and coordination of all deliverables required to bring projects to NTP and through COD financing.

Principal Duties And Responsibilities

The Senior Manager, Real Estate, will provide support to the Director, and manage / mentor direct reports as they work with cross-functional teams in activities leading to the successful execution and delivery of renewable energy projects to the construction team for construction. Specific duties will include:

Management, mentoring and development of direct reports in your region. Work with Director to develop strategy for continued success of the team; provide support for other relevant team and company goals. Prioritize meeting department and company goals; identify and elevate risks to ensure success. Find opportunities to develop, improve and implement internal procedures and processes. Track and manage workloads of direct reports; provide assistance as needed and re-assign projects as needed. Conduct real estate due diligence on various M&A projects as assigned, including lease review, title review, survey review, as well as prepare memorandums for executive level review outlining the risks and liabilities of a given project. Provide QA/QC reviews of various documents for projects managed by direct reports and their teams. Provide expert guidance and assistance where needed to the team to secure land use permits for new and acquired renewable energy projects across multiple local, state, and federal jurisdictions. Act as liaison to upper-level management for all real estate information related to their region. Act as a representative for AES in meetings with the community, elected officials, and regulators; ensure you are aware of the big picture of the projects, goals and company; and that your team is also aware.

Desired Skills And Expertise

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in business, law, environmental sciences, geography or related field.
  • Knowledge of renewable energy construction process; real estate development; renewable energy projects/assets evaluation and acquisition.
  • Knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS, Microsoft Office and Google Earth .
  • Self-starter, very self-reliant and capable of solving problems and operating with minimal supervision.
