AES Clean Energy (AES CE) is seeking a Senior Manager of Growth Strategy to lead cross-function AES’s carbon free growth planning within a regional U.S. electric market or possibly multiple markets. The specific market(s) will depend on your experience and AES’s evolving need.

This position offers a unique opportunity to combine your own background and viewpoint on market strategy with the views and considerations of leadership across AES.

This role develops close collaboration with leadership across Development, Origination, External Affairs, and Execution teams, using internal & external collaborators data to develop a cohesive market plan and provide strategic insights for key decision points. Additionally, this position will facilitate strategy workshops, evaluate diverse scenarios for their business impact, create tools to assess AES challenges, and spearhead the implementation of the agreed Growth Plan.

The ideal candidate is highly motivated, curious, and strategic. This position can be remote or based at one of our U.S. offices. The role requires modest travel, as needed.

Responsibilities Include

  • Provide an in-depth understanding of the regional market dynamics, including wholesale markets, renewable project development lifecycle, policy, regulations, commercial factors, interconnection, and permitting. Facilitate knowledge sharing across relevant AES teams to ensure a comprehensive understanding of market opportunities and challenges.
  • Gather and synthesize data across various customers to formulate a unified market plan and to provide targeted insights for strategic decision-making.
  • Workshop new strategies, develop innovative project opportunities, and evaluate various scenarios and their potential impact on business outcomes, using entrepreneurial vision and collaboration with colleagues. Identify and assess risks associated with potential decisions, proposing mitigation strategies and market plan adjustments as vital.
  • Present the market plan to AES Senior Leadership and partners across AES Clean Energy, articulating the rationale and potential impact of the proposed plan.
  • Drive the implementation of the agreed growth plan. Ensure cohesive engagement and alignment with the strategic objectives of the organization.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key external market participants, including utilities, ISOs, PSC staff, policy makers, industry participants, and groups. Focus on identifying future opportunities and fostering collaboration.
  • Take extreme ownership for implementing pivotal initiatives and incubating early-stage non-traditional project concepts.
  • Minimal travel is required.

Skills And Qualifications

  • Deep personal drive and approaches work as collaborative team member
  • Five or more years of experience in the energy industry, with strong knowledge of clean energy fundamentals including project development, energy markets, utilities, interconnection, permitting, and commercial contracting. (Western Interconnection experience required).
  • Skilled at connecting big picture systems ideas with small analytical details
  • Comfortable coordinating with many internal collaborators on new products and processes
  • Proficiency in data/statistics and visualization tools such as Power BI, or other tools
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially PowerPoint and Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to manage multiple project priorities simultaneously
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to synthesize and explain complex topics in a concise manner
  • Approaches new challenges and problems with a problem-solving mindset and is always ready to learn a new skill to reach team goals
