Job Description Idaho Laboratory is hiring a Decarbonization Modeling and Analysis Research Scientist to work in our Decision Sciences department reporting to the department lead. Our team works a 9×80 schedule located out of our REC facility in Idaho Falls, Idaho with every other Friday off. Remote or Hybrid work opportunities may be available for this position. You will work in a diverse team using many modeling tools and approaches across bioenergy, supply chain resilience, and manufacturing. You will support the development of current and new projects at INL utilizing computational approaches including discrete event simulation, optimization, system dynamics, and agent-based modeling. These computational and analysis resources include development and deployment of high-performance computing solutions, analysis tools, web-based software, and database interface solutions to enhance model platforms and frameworks for both internal and external collaborators. You will support INL leadership in meeting DOE and industry expectations, milestones, and internal reporting. Responsibilities Include:
  • The successful candidate will be a core member of our interdisciplinary research and development.
  • They must be passionate about changing the world’s energy future and adept at contributing as a member of large multi-disciplinary teams.
  • A strong track record of consistently accomplishing research activities within cost and schedule is critical.
  • The individual is expected to contribute to and build the team’s scientific eminence, for example through making major contributions to presentations, reports, peer-reviewed journal articles, invention disclosures, and external engagement.
  • They are expected to provide imaginative, thorough, and practicable solutions to a wide range of complex, ambiguous, and/or difficult problems. They are expected to perform as a Principal Investigator (PI)/ Co-PI on projects or tasks requiring originality and ingenuity.

Qualifications:Minimum Requirements:

  • PhD in Engineering Economics, Forest Economics, Resource Economics, Systems Engineering, Operations Research, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Science/Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Business or a related field and two years of related experience

Job Information

  • The pay range for this position is: Level 2 ($75,804 – $155,496) / Level 3 ($91,008 – $186,588). At Idaho Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
  • You are required to show a demonstrated commitment to valuing and contributing to an inclusive working environment.
  • Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.
