Data Scientists are a part of AES’s digital transformation and work with Data and Business leaders to develop strategies for leveraging data to solve business problems. As staunch advocates for the business, data scientists are familiar with the day-to-day business challenges in the energy business and are constantly looking for ways to leverage data to improve decision making and processes while managing those data projects to ensure on-time delivery and meet expectations.
Qualified candidates will have knowledge of AI/ML techniques, feature engineer approaches, statistics and complex analysis. A primary responsibility of the job will be to develop AI/ML models supporting demand response, energy efficiency, competitive behaviors, renewable energy, and distributed energy resources, as well as on energy pricing. The position will also involve supporting new business development working strongly with existing global businesses.

As a Data Scientist Supporting AES, You Will
- Gain an understanding of AES’s energy business, company culture, technology stack and analytics capabilities.
- Work independently and collaboratively with peers and project managers with supervision to manage research projects to deliver high-value solutions to clients and participate in research efforts, ensuring consistency, quality, and reproducibility of research methods.
- Collaborate with other team members to build upon results to create deeper insights.
- Monitor workflow of data projects by assigning and aligning resources and ensure completion dates are being met.
- Support algorithm development and deploy solutions based on real-world data; implement and validate predictive models; create and maintain statistical models.
- Communicate with internal and external clients to understand business needs and provide analytical solutions.
- Use statistical concepts such as regression, time series, mixed model, Bayesian methods, clustering, etc. to analyze data and provide insights.
- Work in an Agile, collaborative environment, partnering with other scientists, engineers, and database administrators of all backgrounds and disciplines to bring analytical rigor and statistical methods to the challenges of predicting behaviors.
- Data analytics including identifying, retrieving, manipulating, relating and exploiting multiple structured and unstructured data sets from various sources including building or generating new data sets.
