Position Description

Energy Infrastructure Partners (EIP) is actively seeking an accomplished Engineering Director to lead and oversee our nationwide engineering teams. In this pivotal role, you will collaborate closely with our engineering department, providing strategic direction, overseeing energy efficiency projects, conducting comprehensive facility energy assessments, and offering expert energy management services to our utility clients and their customers. This leadership position presents a unique opportunity to work directly with clients, leading the design, development, testing, and implementation of cutting-edge energy efficiency and demand response solutions.

Objectives of this Role

Reporting to the Executive Leadership Team, the Engineering Director will be responsible for providing visionary leadership to our engineering teams nationwide. Key objectives include:

  • Strategic Leadership: Provide strategic direction to the engineering department, aligning efforts with organizational goals, evaluating processes, and identifying avenues for enhancement.
  • Team Management: Lead and supervise engineering teams across the country, ensuring timely project delivery and the production of high-quality work.
  • Customer Engagement: Collaborate with clients to identify energy efficiency solutions, formulate project requirements, and establish company standards using simulations and modeling techniques to support business cases.
  • Quality Assurance: Uphold Energy Infrastructure Partners’ quality standards, staying abreast of pertinent technologies, best practices, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Talent Development: Foster the growth and development of junior engineers, steering technical direction, serving as a technical interface with clients, and promoting the professional advancement of team members.
  • Process Excellence: Develop reliable processes and procedures to ensure consistent quality, efficiency, and adherence to industry best practices.

Daily and Monthly Responsibilities

The Engineering Director will have the following responsibilities:

  • Strategic Oversight: Lead engineering teams across the country, providing guidance, delegation of projects, and ensuring on-time delivery of exceptional work products.
  • Project Management: Oversee the execution and timely completion of engineering projects, including scope analysis, project specification, testing protocol establishment, and report preparation.
  • Solution Development: Utilize engineering calculations and modeling to provide innovative solutions, drawing insights from shop drawings, diagrams, project specs, budget estimates, and on-site visits.
  • Efficiency Enhancement: Identify avenues for improving system functionality through rigorous testing, leading to enhanced efficiency and productivity. Provide ongoing maintenance and support for existing solutions.
  • Innovation: Monitor industry trends and incorporate relevant methodologies to ensure cutting-edge production, aligning with financial objectives and cost-saving goals.
  • Technical Documentation: Utilize software programming for the creation of technical specifications, user documentation, presentations, and progress tracking.
  • Team Development: Cultivate professional competencies through continuous education, training, networking opportunities, and focus on team member growth.
  • Process Development: Establish and refine reliable processes and procedures to ensure consistent quality, adherence to industry standards, and efficient project execution.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • Experience: 10+ years of progressive experience in engineering, with a strong preference for energy-related industries.
  • Management. Experience managing engineers, clients, and sales processes.
  • Certifications: Professional Engineer (PE) state license is strongly preferred.
  • Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability in quality control, project management, and team leadership.
  • Customer Focus: Exceptional consultative skills for customer engagement and solution development.
  • Technical Acumen: Strong engineering design expertise with HVAC, industrial manufacturing, and lighting systems.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong energy and regression modeling capabilities.
  • Hybrid Office: Chicago, IL (preferred), Portland, OR , or New York, NY, (not 100% remote).
  • Travel: 20-30%.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certifications: Professional Engineer (PE), Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Energy Manager (CEM), or ASHRAE certification is a plus.
  • Decarbonization Expertise: Experience developing decarbonization plans for customers, municipalities, or utilities.
  • Energy Program Experience: Proficiency in utility and governmental energy program implementation.
  • Problem Solving: Proven track record of analyzing and troubleshooting energy consumption challenges, from opportunity identification to project implementation and impact measurement.
