Job Summary

The Ellison Institute is seeking a talented and passionate Laboratory Assistant I to join its team. EIT is made up of a diverse group of innovative and talented professionals who work in a fast-paced environment that provides ongoing support to research projects, patient care, lab research and administrative operations.

As a Laboratory Assistant I, you will play a crucial role in facilitating important research by ensuring that scientists have the necessary reagents, tools, and organized workspace. This position offers hands-on exposure and the opportunity to collaborate across various departments, enhancing the integration of multidisciplinary efforts to drive groundbreaking research and patient care initiatives.

The role is responsible for performing the following job duties.

Job Accountabilities:

  • Preparation of buffers and solutions to support experimental procedures
  • Thorough washing and sterilization of laboratory glassware to maintain stringent quality standards
  • Autoclaving of equipment, glassware, and water to ensure optimal cleanliness and safety
  • Effective management and maintenance of the tissue culture facility to uphold sterile conditions
  • Help with schedulable preventative maintenance of freezers, incubators, biosafety cabinets, other potential laboratory equipment
  • Regular restocking of laboratory spaces, communal areas, and assistance with tissue culture requirements
  • Monitoring and regulation of CO2 and water levels within incubators to guarantee optimal conditions
  • Vigilant upkeep and sanitation of water baths and other shared laboratory equipment
  • Responsible for supply orders to ensure an uninterrupted workflow
  • Additional contributions to general laboratory maintenance as needed

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Adeptness in ensuring laboratory environments are impeccably organized and supplied
  • Keen attention to detail and adherence to protocols for maintaining sterile conditions
  • Proficiency in managing routine tasks while remaining flexible to address ad hoc requirements
  • Strong organizational skills and the capability to manage multiple responsibilities concurrently
  • Effective communication skills, both within the laboratory team and across various departments
  • A commitment to contributing positively to a collaborative, research-driven atmosphere

Preferred Experience: Associate’s degree or greater in related field.

Preferred Field of Expertise: Lab experience is a plus but not required.

Hourly Rate: $20.57-24.57, DOE
