About the role

DNV s Markets & Risk group is seeking a creative and collaborative team member with a vision for the future of the energy industry. This position can be based out of any of our North American offices. The successful candidate will serve as Technical and Creative Writer, partnering with consulting teams to plan, write, edit, format, and develop graphics for technical research studies, work plans, bid proposals, presentations, conference papers, and other documents. The right candidate will demonstrate expertise in all facets of document creation, an ability to quickly grasp technical subject matter, a passion for clean energy and sustainability, exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, and a positive, service-oriented attitude. This position offers opportunities for traveling to attend other DNV office locations, conferences, and trainings.

This role is based at our DNV offices in Oakland (CA), Portland (OR), Medford (MA), Portland (ME), Madison (MI), presenting a dynamic hybrid schedule where employees will typically spend three (3) days per week working from either a DNV office or client location/site. Further details regarding role-specific requirements will be shared during the interview process.

The position may be out of any of DNV s continental U.S. offices.

What You ll Do

  • Write, edit, and format documents to communicate complex technical content in a clear, accessible way
    • Editing may include substantially restructuring and rewriting long documents, composing original text for context or clarification, and correcting for grammar, punctuation, and style
    • Work flow requires a mastery of the MS Office Suite including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Partner with project teams to help guide the document development process, creating report outlines, content development plans, and editorial schedules for upcoming research reports
  • Thoughtfully use client feedback to revise drafts and respond to client comments
  • Work adeptly within custom reporting and presentation templates in MS Word and PowerPoint. Develop expert knowledge about DNV templates and defined styles, advising on brand and style guidelines
  • Maintain and update branded templates as needed
  • As a secondary role, collaborate with Business Development to write and edit content for bid proposals, presentations, conference papers, and other projects
  • Provide internal training to other DNV consultants on best practices in report development and the writing process, MS Word skills, and other topics

As required by the Pay Transparency laws in Colorado, New York City, California, Washington, and Connecticut, DNV provides a reasonable compensation range for roles that may be hired in those locations. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors, including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. For the states of Colorado, New York City, NY, California, Washington, and Connecticut only, the range of starting pay for this role is $65,000 – $90,000.

About you

What is Required

  • Bachelor s degree or higher in English, Writing, Journalism, or related field
  • Two or more years of experience in similar writing/editing positions, e.g., producing technical reports, presentations, or proposals
  • Demonstrated ability, through samples and work history, to write and edit complex technical content
  • Demonstrated strength working both independently and collaboratively with project teams
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience using style guides, especially Chicago
  • Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with multiple ongoing projects
  • Outstanding written and oral English communication skills
  • Expert skills in MS Word (working with templates, defined styles, etc.) and PowerPoint
  • Proficiency in Excel and Adobe Acrobat
  • We conduct pre-employment drug and background screening

What is Preferred

  • Master s degree in English or related field
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, etc.); experience creating and editing graphics or other visual work products
  • Knowledge of the energy industry (including utilities, energy efficiency, renewable energy, decarbonization, greenhouse gas reduction)
  • Knowledge of government energy and/or energy efficiency programs
  • Experience in a consulting environment
  • Experience with MS Teams or other remote collaboration
