The Columbus Technology Center in Dublin, OH is seeking a Principal Engineer to perform and grow the medium- to large-scale mechanical testing capabilities at the Columbus, Ohio Technology Center. The research and testing performed in Columbus is supporting operations and infrastructure to meet the current energy demand, while accelerating decarbonization strategies that include transportation and storage of hydrogen and CO2.
This position is based in Dublin, OH and requires an onsite presence to perform the responsibilities of the position.
What You ll Do
- Setup and run medium- to large-scale mechanical tests that require design, development, and integration of pneumatic, hydraulic, electronic, and data acquisition systems and equipment.
- Inspection, testing, repair/troubleshooting, and installation of equipment.
- Collaborate with DNV leadership and other DNV Technology Centers to grow the medium- to large-scale testing portfolio at DNV.
- Perform tasks on projects relating to materials selection and corrosion testing and analysis. This includes experimental setup, data collection, and reporting. Some testing environments may be hazardous, such as H2 and H2S.
- Work in one or more areas of technical expertise, along with DNV subject matter experts at other DNV technology centers.
- Interact with customers, develop testing plans/proposals, and develop new customers.
- Provide project update to customers and write reports for completed projects.
- Present research through technical journals and/or conference symposia.
- Follow the Safety, Health, Environmental, and Quality Assurance program on projects.
- Additional responsibilities may be required as needed.

What is Required
- Engineering degree (M.Sc or Ph.D.) in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Corrosion, Mechanical Engineering, or Equivalent
- Experience building and running medium- to large-scale pneumatic or hydraulic equipment.
- Experience with proposal generation
- Well organized & proactive, able to successfully work in a fast paced and competitive environment with diverse people clients and co-workers
- Willingness and ability to travel, up to 5% of the time
- Ability to regularly lift 25lbs and wear a respirator
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills
- We conduct pre-employment drug and background screening, along with random drug screening as per Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements.
What is Preferred
- Experience in project management, with knowledge of technical interfaces and project finance management
- Experience with running fatigue crack growth and fracture toughness tests
- 5+ years of laboratory testing experience is strongly desired
