About the role

Do you want to participate in the advancement of safety across the energy storage industry?

We are looking for a talented safety-focused battery energy storage expert to join our team as an Energy Storage Safety Engineer to help support the deployment of safer energy storage systems!

The primary function of this position is to grow and maintain DNV s industry-leading position in energy storage safety by conducting hazard mitigation analyses, technical due diligence on energy storage systems, and interface with permitting authorities. You will work on a variety of unique energy storage projects that include technologies such as lithium-ion batteries. You will be exposed to cutting-edge technology developed by some of the most well-known industry manufacturers, investors, developers, and integrators.

This role is based at our DNV office in Chalfont, PA, Austin, Houston, TX, Medford, OR, New York, NY, Oakland, San Diego, CA, Portland, OR and Seattle, WA, presenting a dynamic hybrid schedule where employees will typically spend three (3) days per week working from either a DNV office or client location/site. Further details regarding role-specific requirements will be shared during the interview process.

The position may also be considered at other DNV offices within the continental U.S.

What You ll Do

  • Manage projects and related tasks including monitoring project budgets, deliverables, and client relationships.
  • Support experts in fire, gas, explosion, and plume modeling. Participate in a range of projects including technology reviews, code analyses, and risk analyses.
  • Participate in new business development through proposal writing and direct sales. Build and maintain client relationships.
  • Provide expertise and process improvements to authorities having jurisdiction and code councils.
  • Collaborate on white papers, webinars, code development, industry speaking engagements, and cross-industry and business areas as energy storage permeates maritime, aviation, grid, and oil & gas.
  • Provide input on strategic planning and marketing.
  • Support the mission and vision, have fun while you do it, and make a few new friends!

About you

What is Required

  • Minimum Bachelor s degree in an engineering discipline or related field
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in risk analysis, batteries, energy storage, fire safety, safety consulting, and/or solar + storage development
  • Experience in being part of collaborative project team(s)
  • Comfort with interpreting, analyzing, and synthesizing data using Microsoft Office Suite
  • Interpersonal skills, and solid speaking and presentation skills
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines, while being adaptive to changing scope or customer needs
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 10-15% of the time
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug and background screening.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
  • We conduct pre-employment drug and background screening.

What is Preferred

  • Advanced degree in engineering discipline or related field
  • Achievement or plans and ability to achieve a Fire Protection Engineer (FPE) license
  • Familiarity with the construction and operation of energy storage systems and familiarity with energy storage codes and standards
  • Business development or involvement in industry groups or committees, delivering publications in trade journals, presentations at conferences
  • Experience in risk analysis, such as conducting HMAs
  • Experience in battery testing or battery safety
  • Experience with energy storage hardware
  • Experience with utility or industry best practices, guidelines, and standards such as UL9540, UL9540A testing procedures, NFPA 855, or other battery standards
