Job Summary The overall goal of the Solar PV Lead Installer is to manage and be responsible for the solar installation. He / She is leading the crew on site and guarantees the completion of the project with the highest level of safety, quality, efficiency and conformance to the original plans and specifications, on budget and on time.

Block 1: To be considered: “Skills and Attributes Required for the Position”

  • Must have a valid California Driver’s License and clean DMV record;
  • Must have own safe transportation with valid auto insurance to go to job site and to perform store runs;
  • Must drive throughout the Tri-Counties Area (Ventura, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo), and be able to carry tools and equipment in own vehicle;
  • Agree to use personal debit/credit card for purchase of additional material or gas (follow reimbursement procedure to be reimbursed same day);
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED;
  • Must have excellent communication skills;
  • Must be extremely punctual and reliable;
  • Must have can-do and positive attitude, be solution-oriented and be a team player;
  • Must be caring and loyal;
  • Must have great attention to details;
  • Must know all equipment and material necessary to install flashing, racking system, micro-inverter/power optimizers, solar panels, string inverters and batteries on rooftop and ground mount systems;
  • Must have a minimum of one year of experience in a similar position with another company (for new employees only) and successfully pass Solar PV Installer 3 test (all employees);
  • Should have experience complying with OSHA safety requirements and regulations;
  • Must be proficient in installing both roof and ground-mount solar systems;
  • Must be proficient with micro and string inverters and power optimizers;
  • Must be proficient with electrical work involving up to 600 VDC and 480 VAC;
  • Must have own set of tools (tool list provided).

Block 2: To keep your position: “Key Tasks and Responsibilities of the Position”

  • Perform store runs to get additional material;
  • Lead and work with crew members to complete projects within established policies, procedures and timelines;
  • Duly follow and implement safety procedures and management guidelines;
  • Understand the full scope of work for a given project;
  • Drive company vehicle, report maintenance needs, clean and organize after work day;
  • Must keep company vehicle and belongings clean and organized;
  • Responsible and accountable for company credit card and various payment cards (Home Depot, gas, etc.)
  • Perform trash runs;
  • Review project plans and drawings to prepare for the installation and reduce the amount of store runs;
  • Prepare and bring materials and tools to the job site according to the Bill of Material;
  • Draw layout of the solar array on roof per plan with confidence and autonomy;
  • Draw layout of the solar array on the ground per plan with confidence and autonomy;
  • Prepare job site with safety equipment: install fall arrest protection, cones, signs, etc.;
  • Maintain high levels of quality assurance and quality control with an emphasis on safety;
  • Install the solar array racking, properly seal all roof penetrations, and install all relative equipment (module add-ons and solar panels) per plan with confidence and autonomy;
  • Install equipment bonding and grounding, trunk cable, and electrical home-run with confidence and autonomy;
  • Document work by taking pictures before installation, as well as throughout the installation (pictures include the condition of the roof before installation, roof penetrations, racking installed, micro-inverters/power optimizers set up on racking, grounding bushings and wire connections inside junction boxes, grounding bushings for conduits, grounding rod, solar modules installed, grounding and bonding of equipment, interior and exterior of main service panel and sub-panel);
  • Share and classify pictures taken on the Company document-sharing app;
  • Must process expenses as per reimbursement procedure;
  • Show utmost respect for company belongings, including tools, uniforms, vehicles, etc.
  • Accurately report time spent on Company tracking app and report any miss punches same day or as they occur;
  • Control and validate other crew members’ time on tracking app and/or time sheet, on time for payroll to be processed;
  • Must represent the company in the best and most professional way;
  • Must follow company policies as per the company handbook and internal procedures;
  • Must be clean and wear company uniform per grooming policy;
  • Must show utmost respect for customers’ property and belongings;
  • Provide outstanding customer service (in person, on the phone, via email) in a professional, friendly, hospitable manner;
  • Communicate with customers in a professional, considerate, and respectful manner, answering all questions and complaints to the best of your ability. Refer to your supervisor if do not know the answer;
  • Must read company emails and respond to questions in a timely manner.
  • Must train Solar PV Installer 1, 2, and 3 on rooftop and ground mount solar installations;
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot system malfunctions and operation issues during commissioning;
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot system malfunctions and operation issues during maintenance assessment;
  • Set up a monitoring system and configure the device using Wi-Fi, hard wire (CAT5/CAT6), or cellular data;
  • Be able to perform the following electrical tasks with confidence and autonomy:
    • Precise EMT conduit bending;
    • Installation of junction boxes;
    • Connection of EMT, Flex and PVC conduits;
    • Strapping of metal conduits;
    • Proper bonding of metal conduits;
    • Wires connection in junction boxes (series and parallel);
    • Wall installation of central inverter and AC Combiner Box;
    • Wall installation of AC and DC disconnects;
    • Wall installation of Sub Electrical Panels;
    • Installation of batteries;
    • Wiring of central inverter, AC Combiner Box, AC and DC disconnects;
    • Installation of breakers in Main Electrical Service and Sub Electrical Panel;
    • Wiring of breakers in Main Electrical Service and Sub Electrical Panel;
    • Wiring of batteries;
    • Proper bounding of metal enclosures;
    • Proper grounding of solar array;
    • Install and wire grounding rod;
    • Relocate existing breakers.
  • Follow quality control protocol and checklist, verify and validate work of subordinates by initialing tasks;
  • Pass quality control checks 100% of the time;
  • Must install safety stickers;
  • Must fully prepare the job site for inspection;
  • Must be able to conduct an inspection;
  • Be able to commission the solar system;
  • Must work to reduce the level of inventory in the van and warehouse.
  • Receive material from suppliers with proper care and count. Write mentions on labels;
  • Provide technical solutions to the issues arising during installation.
  • Train crew members on safety procedures and installation best practices;
  • Must be held accountable for the anchoring of the crew members during rooftop installations;
  • Must be held accountable for the performance of all the crew members;
  • Must effectively delegate tasks required to perform installation;
  • Must manage labor hours and electrical BOM;
  • Must keep track of installation budget;
  • Implement efficiency improvement measures;
  • Track, correct, and report unsafe behavior of other crew members to Management;
  • Provide organizational solutions to the issues arising during installation;
  • Be a role model for the crew members;
  • Replace any Solar PV Installer 1, 2, or 3 if missing;
  • Be held accountable for the safety of all crew members and other stakeholders, including customers, visitors, distributors, other Company employees, sub-contractors, etc.;
  • Be the point of contact for Project Manager and Installations Manager;
