The Team
The Energy, Climate, and Natural Resources team in Deloitte’s Government and Public Services (GPS) practice helps clients implement transformative programming and public services that advance clean, secure, and sustainable growth. Our work is both domestic and international, supporting clients in the U.S. and projects abroad in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. We advise clients on solutions for decarbonization, climate change mitigation, and infrastructure resilience. Examples of our work include supporting countries to mobilize climate finance to achieve Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), creating green budget taxonomies, and developing investable climate projects.
Work you’ll do
As a Senior Consultant within our GPS Energy, Climate, and Natural Resources team you will work with public sector clients to solve climate, energy, and natural resource challenges. Work will consist of the following:
- Work with public sector clients (international, national, and sub-national/municipal government) to solve critical climate, energy, and water sector issues, particularly those related to climate change, adaptation, and infrastructure resilience.
- Manage geographically dispersed and cross-functional teams to deliver solutions, such as climate risk assessments, design and implementation of climate resilience and adaptation strategies and interventions, developing program activities to promote climate change adaptation as part of broader resilience action, and providing technical leadership on policies and strategies related to climate change adaptation, including but not limited to nature-based solutions, green/grey/blue infrastructure, integrated urban planning, the built environment
- Develop written analyses, presentations, recommendations, tools, and resources to support clients in understanding the climate change adaptation and resilience issues.
- Stay abreast of the evolving climate resilience landscape, developments in urbanization and resilience technologies, and serve as an expert and thought leader in the field of climate change adaptation.
- Include risk profiles emanating from parallel fields, such as public health, transportation and infrastructure asset management, trends in climate migration, community and stakeholder engagement, and vulnerable communities and populations in resilience work.
- Manage client relationships and display leadership and business judgment, anticipate client and project needs, identify challenges, and develop solutions.
- Actively participate and contribute to internal firm activities including staff recruitment and mentorship, and uphold Deloitte’s commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and work-life balance.
- Lead and support business development initiatives to grow the climate, energy, and natural resources team and the GPS practice, including proposal development.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in environmental studies, international development, urban planning/architecture/engineering, public policy, or a related field
- 10+ years of experience working in climate resilience and adaptation
- Experience working with public and private sector stakeholders in emerging markets on climate change adaptation and resilience topics
- Experience working with bilateral and multilateral institutions or on international development priorities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex information to a variety of audiences
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer. sponsorship, now or at any time in the future
- Ability to travel up to 25% on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve
Preferred:
- Advanced degree from an accredited university in environmental studies, international development, public policy, or a related field.
- Exposure to securing climate financing for resilience, disaster risk reduction, adaptation and/or emergency management at the sub-national level
- Advanced skills in using industry standard research tools, models, and software, such as GIS, AI for risk reduction, ESRI, and others.
- Knowledge of international climate policy and process, including UNFCCC negotiations, agreements, and related reporting frameworks and standards
- Experience designing, managing, and implementing complex international development projects focused on increasing climate change resilience
- Experience mentoring and coaching junior staff.
- Experience managing senior-level client relationships, presenting and selling ideas to clients and other decision makers
- Experience with business development and proposal writing.
The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Deloitte, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $113,325-$188,875.
You may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
