Overview

Cypress Creek Renewables is seeking a talented Civil Project Engineer to join our team. This position will be focusing on early stage design of ground mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) system and battery electric storage system (BESS) projects. Tasks will range from initial site feasibility analysis, cost estimating, EPC bid review, permit support, and construction oversight to verify conformance with the design documents. This is a remote position that will support multiple project markets across multiple time zones.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with site de-risking and early stage design of ground mounted solar PV system projects, focusing on the civil engineering and land development aspects of the projects.
  • Read, interpret, and understand all project documentation from applicable Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) i.e., City/County, zoning and permitting requirements, and produce compliant design solutions.
  • Review due diligence surveys and studies required for design and permitting purposes. Review reports conducted for projects to ensure compliance and determine impacts (constraints) into the site design.
  • Review local, state, and federal GIS data which can impact civil site design; interacting with AHJ officials via phone as required.
  • Produce project civil cost estimates utilizing all available project information and data.
  • Review project Hydrology and Hydraulics reports, including calculations for the post construction runoff rates and the respective storm water mitigations applicable to Civil site design and AHJ compliance.
  • Review project Geotechnical Investigation reports, including findings and recommendations for site grading, foundations, and roads; understand and evaluate findings to inform project costs.
  • Review project Survey Topographic and LiDAR data for use in evaluation of PV site design, including grading and drainage, tree clearing and demolishing of existing structures, and their associated costs.
  • Review project Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs), understand, and verify compliance with AHJ standards for land disturbance.
  • Produce grading analysis, topographical exhibits, and other AutoCAD Civil3D deliverables.
  • Create AutoCAD “base map” drawings that include project constraints and other applicable site data to use for design purposes. Ability to export GIS Shape (.shp) files to AutoCAD and vice versa.
  • Support Civil Team Lead and work with Development Team, Internal CCR departments, and external consultants, as needed to understand the critical aspects for a project’s success.
  • Review and interpret construction standards and specifications to verify design compliance.
  • Learn national codes and standards and apply to renewable energy system projects.
  • Travel to project sites and/or meetings as required to support assigned markets.

Education & Experience Required

  • Civil Engineering degree from an accredited university.
  • 2 years minimum experience in the civil engineering land development design space, renewable energy field, or equivalent.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certified, progressively working towards Professional Engineer’s (PE) licensure.
  • Utility scale ground mounted solar PV system project experience a plus. Understanding of the basics behind PV system projects.
  • Technology savvy with advanced computer skills.
  • AutoCAD and/or Civil3D experience highly preferred.
  • ESRI ArcGIS experience highly preferred.
  • Effective communication skills (oral and written).
  • Initiative-taking and committed to excellence.

Locations: Preference for proximity to CCR office (Santa Monica, CA, Durham, NC, or San Francisco, CA) remote also acceptable.

Compensation: The salary range for the position is $80,000-120,000 plus bonus and benefits. Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location.
