Job Description
Copia is looking for an experienced Manager/Sr. Manager of Execution Engineering to manage the design and engineering of large, utility-scale, solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage (BESS) projects in late-stage development, execution, construction, and operation. This role is crucial at Copia as it supports project execution by overseeing the technical design and development of renewable energy projects. The Manager/Sr. Manager, Execution Engineering role is also relied upon for quality assurance and compliance, cross-functional collaboration, risk management, and problem solving, as well as leadership and mentorship.
The Manager/Sr. Manager, Execution Engineering will report directly to the Director, Engineering in an individual contributor capacity.

What You Will Do
The Manager/Sr. Manager, Execution Engineering will work alongside other Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) team members. Specific duties will include:
Project Execution
- Develop scopes of work and technical contract exhibits
- Seek and evaluate proposals for Owner’s engineering services
- Manage engineering consultants and Engineering Procurement & Construction (EPC) contractors to develop construction drawings and support materials
- Support the EPC Contractor RFP process and selection of EPCM consultant selection
- Oversee technical project due diligence and project engineering design reviews
- Coordinate feedback from internal stakeholders and Owner’s Engineering consultants on design reviews
- Value engineer PV and BESS system designs to maximize reliability & reduce overall project cost
- Establish/review technical specifications of Owner Furnished equipment in coordination with Procurement
- Support M&A technical, design, and constructability due diligence on project acquisitions
- Manage EPC Management Consultant through all technical support during construction, including:
- Respond to contractor requests for information (RFIs)
- Perform field quality assurance (QA)/ quality control (QC) checks
- Develop punch lists
- Support commissioning activities with internal Technology/Commissioning teams & external stakeholders
- Review commissioning reports and analyze system performance
- Support project financing activities and technical diligence
- Support Operations/Asset Management teams to resolve technical issues at operating sites.
- Assist Development, Project Management, and Commercial Execution teams with budget and schedule inputs
- Develop and implement technical solutions to region-specific requirements.
- Contribute to Lessons Learned and continuous improvement initiatives within project development and execution
- Perform site visits as necessary
Growth & Leadership
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives to execute safe, quality, and high-performance projects
- Mentor and educate team on changing trends in technology, best practices, and safety
- Support the team as a technical subject matter expert
- Review recent and emerging technology and companies for Approved Vendor List inclusion
- Stay current on market conditions, focusing on policy items impacting design, procurement, and construction
- Clearly and concisely communicate plans with senior leadership using PowerPoint
- Attend site safety walks and identify job site hazards

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline, required
- Graduate degree in engineering or business, preferred
- Professional Engineering license, strongly preferred
- 4+ years of professional experience for Manager position (7+ years of experience for Sr. Manager position) in energy system design, project or land development, and/or construction, as well as in project management and/or consulting as a project engineer.
- Electrical design experience, including 1-line and 3-line diagram conventions, NEC conductor sizing, overcurrent protection sizing, utility disconnecting means requirements, equipment selection, grounding methodologies, and short circuit current analysis
- Stormwater and grading experience with an understanding of the permitting constraints and limitations
- Experience with medium voltage collector system design
- Experience managing third-party consultants, vendors, and internal stakeholders
- Proficient with MS Office Suite
- Experience with Procore and/or similar construction management platforms
- Safety training certifications (OSHA 10-hour, CPR/first aid, etc.)
- Ability to travel 25%
