Job Opening
The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection seeks applicants for the position of Administrator VIII – Deputy Regional Director in the Bureau of Water Resources (BWR) at our Southeast Regional Office (SERO). This office serves 84 cities and towns in Southeastern Massachusetts, including Cape Cod and the Islands.
Position Summary
The Deputy Regional Director for Bureau of Water Resources (DRD/ BWR) will support the Regional Director by managing regulatory programs related to wetlands protection, drinking water supply management, wastewater, and waterways/Chapter 91 licensing. This includes overseeing permitting, compliance, and enforcement activities. The DRD/ BWR will manage and mentor a team of over 40 environmental professionals, including engineers, scientists, and administrative staff.
This role demands exceptional leadership and management skills, coupled with a thorough understanding of water resource policies and implementation. The ideal candidate will be a proactive problem solver with a strong commitment to environmental protection, team building, and public service.

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must have at least (A) six (6) years of full-time or, equivalent part-time, professional, administrative, supervisory, or managerial experience in business administration, business management, public administration, public management, clinical administration or clinical management of which (B) at least two (2) years must have been in a supervisory or managerial capacity or (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience and substitutions below.
Substitutions
I. A certificate in a relevant or related field may be substituted for one (1) year of the required (A) experience.
II. A Bachelor’s degree in a related field may be substituted for two (2) years of the required (A) experience.
III. A Graduate degree in a related field may be substituted for three (3) years of the required (A) experience.
IV. A Doctorate degree in a related field may be substituted for four (4) years of the required (A) experience.
