Job Description and Duties

The examination is a separate process from applying for this vacancy. Please be sure to follow all instructions for each process.

Would you like to contribute to achieving the state’s ambitious and internationally recognized clean energy and environmental goals? The California Public Utilities Commission is the State’s lead agency working to increase the amount of clean and renewable energy in California. The Renewables Procurement Section is in search of dynamic, creative team members to assist in implementing critical statewide programs, such as the California Renewables Portfolio Standard (RPS) program. Established in 2002, the RPS program seeks to reduce fossil fuel consumption, air pollution, and greenhouse gases associated with electricity generation. If energy or environmental sustainability is your passion, and you want to contribute to California’s clean energy future, we encourage you to apply. The Renewables Procurement Section values strong communication skills and seeks individuals that perform well in team environments.

Under supervision of the Project and Program Supervisor, the engineer will advise and assist high-level decision-makers such as Commissioners, Judges, and Energy Division management. The engineer may act as a team leader and project coordinator on renewable energy analysis projects, which may include policy and technical analysis, as well as data management, modeling, and visualization. The engineer will make recommendations based on independent analysis of regulatory, policy and technical issues. The engineer will also develop analysis and make recommendations regarding the CPUC’s policy-setting rulemakings via a wide range of work products, review and provide feedback on proposed legislative bills, and/or oversee implementation of programs that result from these CPUC and legislative processes.

The engineer will perform other work as necessary, such as writing and presenting reports, coordinating with other California organizations and agencies (e.g., the California Energy Commission, the California Air Resources Board, California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, U.S. Forest Service, California Independent System Operator), and responding to outside inquiries.

You will find additional information about the job in the Duty Statement.
