Your Role at Cabot Cabot has an exciting opportunity for a talented scientist who is interested in applying fundamental concepts and principles of chemistry, polymer science and materials science to a series of product and application development projects. This role is for someone looking to solve challenging technical problems by working through a series of assignments across technology teams.

The rotations will be based in Billerica, MA, with the possibility to locate at another Cabot site, depending on the candidate and business needs.

How You Will Make An Impact

In this role, you will spend the next 2 years working on 3 assignments within different teams in the technology organization. This opportunity allows you to explore different aspects of product and application technology in different product families while building your skills, capabilities and network within Cabot. You will have the opportunity to experience how various businesses within Cabot leverage our common tools and practices in the ways that are best suited to the unique dynamics of each business.

This role requires a highly intelligent self-motivated person with a positive attitude, a ton of good energy, a strong track record and a curiosity to learn.

A Successful Candidate Will Be Someone Who

  • Conducts independent research to understand and deliver solutions to important technical problems in the areas of particle surface modification, polymer / particle interactions, and structure / property relationships in rubber, coatings, battery and inkjet formulations.
  • Employs thorough scientific approach, including understanding of literature, mechanistic thinking, hypothesis setting, experimentation, analysis, and reporting.
  • Plans, schedules, conducts, and/or coordinates detailed phases of work for a part of a major project or total project of moderate scope to safely meet objectives and timeline.
  • Communicates effectively with broad audiences in written reports and team presentations
  • Exhibits a high level of intellectual property awareness, ensuring new learnings are protected as patents and trade secrets.
  • Proactively shares knowledge and information with others to drive stronger technical solutions. Organizes and communicates data to technical groups in a way that is clearly understood.
  • Demonstrates a safety mindset. Strictly follows and complies with all SH&E procedures, standards and regulations and constantly strives for Excellence in the fields of sustainability and Safety, Health and preservation of the Environment.

What You Will Bring To Cabot

  • Expertise in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science, or related field – PhD, or MS with 4+ years of related experience or Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years of relevant experience required
  • Product and application development experience in polymeric systems, preferably in the areas of rubber formulation, inkjet chemistry, coatings, or batteries
  • Intellectual curiosity: Seeking to know and understand Cabot’s technology more broadly, and how to leverage the broad organizational knowledge to advance project goals.
  • Experience with project management and experimental design (statistical or via machine learning techniques) preferred.
