Overview

The Operations & Maintenance Technician III will be responsible for helping to ensure the operational performance of our generation and energy storage asset portfolio. This position requires a variety of technical and other skills to perform various aspects of solar PV system O&M, including system monitoring, preventative maintenance inspections, troubleshooting and diagnosis, and corrective repairs. This role is part of a career progression series and is marked by increased technical responsibility.

The O&M Technician III reports directly to the Director of Operations & Maintenance. It is expected that this position will require approximately 20% office work and 80% field work (day travel).

RESPONSIBILITIES

Relationship Management

• Fosters a sense of trust and reliability on behalf of all asset owners and/or owner representatives by providing timely and accurate communication about all site issues.

• Builds strong relationships with host facility staff and off-taker representatives through proactive communication and adherence to all site access guidelines.

• Advises stakeholders on technical operations and maintenance of solar PV generation facilities.

Planning and Administration

• Assists the Director of O&M with scheduling inspections and repairs.

• Reviews upcoming work orders and completes detailed planning to include identifying required tools, materials and site host considerations.

• Requests quotes and procures materials/parts for assigned work orders.

• Coordinates with site host representatives as required to facilitate site access.

• Submits required information to request warranty replacements via manufacturer RMA process.

System Operation and Maintenance

• Performs annual preventative maintenance inspections (PMIs) as assigned.

• Responds to site outages as directed and performs on-site troubleshooting to include documenting as found conditions and performing root cause analysis.

• Recommends and performs corrective repairs including but not limited to the removal and replacement of system components and other corrective actions as directed.

• Documents all service visits, including annual inspections, assessments, maintenance, and other field work. Communicates relevant details in a timely manner via appropriate reporting format.

• Utilizes monitoring platforms to periodically review the health of all operating assets (to include 1 weekend per month).

• Diagnoses site issues, either remotely or on site, and communicates relevant information via cloud-based ticketing platform.

• Acts as Team Lead for assigned field work as directed.

Safety & Training

• Instills and adheres to the organization’s safety culture.

• Reports safety observations and utilizes stop work authority as required.

• Continuously assesses job-related hazards, implements relevant control measures, and notifies supervisor when work scope is unsafe to perform.

• Properly utilizes relevant Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) according to contractual obligations, NFPA 70E, and OSHA requirements.

• Demonstrates knowledge of electrical safety including principles of NFPA 70E.

• Practices continuous learning and seeks to become a subject matter expert on all major equipment types installed across our fleet of assets including DAS, inverters, trackers, and substation equipment.

• Maintains relevant equipment operator licenses as required.

• Assists in training other technicians and electricians in select job-specific technical processes.

BASIC QUALIFCATIONS REQUIRED

• Bachelor’s High School Diploma or equivalent

• Minimum two years of experience installing, troubleshooting, or maintaining utility-scale PV solar equipment

• General understanding of physical, electrical, and structural construction plans

• Demonstrates knowledge and skills related to the construction and operation of electrical equipment

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED

• NABCEP System Inspector Board Certification or equivalent preferred

• Experience with Nextracker and/or ATI tracker installation and/or maintenance preferred

• Experience with the National Electric Code as it pertains to solar PV system design preferred

• Strong computer skills

• Ability to work well with others in a fast-paced construction environment

• Self-motivated

• Honest, reliable, self-aware, and conscientious

• Strong interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written

• Strong planning, organization, and prioritization skills

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

• Valid state driver’s license, clean DMV driving record

• Ability to be on-call to address delays, emergencies, bad weather, and other issues at the jobsite

• Requires approximately 20% office work and 80% field work (day travel)

• Some evening and weekend work may be required

• Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of jobsite in all types of weather; this may include walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching

• Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds at a time

• Require travel to worksites and projects as needed

• Exposure to characteristic construction site dangers
