Job Description

The Head of Development – East will oversee the development of solar, solar + storage and stand-one battery energy storage, driving leadership, project management, economic analysis, negotiation, and transactional support across their portfolio. The success candidates must demonstrate a track record in the energy sector, particularly in developing energy infrastructure within Eastern U.S regional power markets (e.g., PJM, MISO, SERC, ISONE, NYISO). Essential qualifications include robust financial analysis capabilities, adeptness in communicating complex concepts, and a proactive drive to propel projects to success.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee multiple projects from early to late stages, managing all aspects necessary to advance projects to Notice to Proceed (NTP) and financial close or sale. This includes securing sites, handling real estate and environmental permitting, conducting site studies, negotiating tax abatements, engaging with the community, and coordinating interconnection activities.
  • Lead both third-party and internal project development teams to ensure successful execution of the aforementioned development activities.
  • Collaborate closely with technical, engineering, finance, and asset management teams to align on project development strategies, assess development risks, and validate project valuation assumptions.
  • Support the greenfielding department by leveraging extensive development experience to provide valuable input and guidance as needed.
  • Manage project schedules, budgets, and contribute to financial modeling efforts. Monitor and report changes in project financials as development progresses.
  • Establish and refine processes, workflow procedures, and risk review frameworks with defined risk tolerance metrics tailored for utility-scale projects across different stages of development.
  • Partner with the M&A team to support external engagement with project sellers, conduct preliminary project screenings, and oversee project due diligence processes.

  • Proven track record in effectively leading and managing a team of direct reports.
  • Strong leadership and collaboration skills, adept at achieving results within cross-functional, multi-department project teams.
  • Ability to efficiently manage multiple projects while maintaining meticulous attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated with a demonstrated ability to work effectively under minimal supervision.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively by plane and car on short notice.
  • For remote candidates, willingness to travel regularly to the corporate headquarters.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in utility-scale renewable energy project development, with specific experience in PJM, MISO, SERC, ISONE and/or NYISO preferred.
