Job Description

As the Senior Construction Project Manager, you will be instrumental in the construction of utility-scale solar and battery energy storage projects. This role offers a unique opportunity to share your expertise, mentor colleagues, and shape the construction processes and best practices within a growing Independent Power Producer.

You will be engaged in all phases from pre-construction design and planning through to commissioning and closeout. Your meticulous attention to detail and ability to manage multiple work streams simultaneously, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget, will be critical to your success. Travel to the project site is anticipated one to two times per month during the construction phase to ensure timely and budget-conscious completion.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the successful execution of all activities at the project site, including Balance of System (BOS) contractors, equipment suppliers, construction services, and related work. Ensure that safety is a top priority and is adequately addressed by all on-site personnel associated with the project.
  • Ensure that QC/QA measures are implemented and documented to maintain high standards throughout the construction process.
  • Manage the project schedule, resolve potential delays, update the schedule as needed, and keep relevant internal stakeholders informed of progress and challenges.
  • Oversee the third-party on-site team of quality control professionals representing the owner, including the site manager and electrical and civil specialists.
  • Manage the various construction contracts, interface with the BOS contractor, owner’s engineers, and independent engineers. Handle change orders and ensure cost control within the approved project budget.
  • Oversee the receipt and inspection of equipment and materials, ensuring they meet project specifications.
  • Manage and approve invoices and costs incurred under all project contracts, ensuring they align with the project budget and financial controls.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, construction management, or a relevant technical field.
  • Preference for experience across all phases – preconstruction, construction, and handoff to operations.
  • Experience in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) is a plus.
  • Experience mentoring and training junior team members.
  • Familiarity with managing utility-scale solar and/or Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) construction contracts.
  • Demonstrated understanding of plans and specifications for civil and electrical work.
  • Ability to solve problems and make informed decisions quickly.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, organizational, project management, problem-solving, and team-building skills.
  • Providing pre-construction estimates based on industry knowledge.
  • Developing contract exhibits for BOS contracts.
  • Proficient with computers, including strong working knowledge of MS Office and MS Project.
  • Experience with document management systems (e.g., SharePoint, Procore).
  • Creating and managing schedules using MS Project is a plus.
  • Demonstrated high level of ownership and responsibility over all aspects of project work.
  • Ability to multi-task and arbitrate between conflicting priorities with clear target setting and follow-through capability in a fast-paced and rapidly changing work environment.
  • Must have a valid current driver’s license and be able to travel and perform field work.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA requirements; OSHA 10 certification preferred.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
