Position Summary

Working closely with BCI Leadership, Members, Board Committees, government grantors, and grant partner organizations, the Technical Projects Manager is responsible for managing and organizing project activities and deliverables for several shared grants as well as providing expertise and support for BCI’s sustainability projects, standards, and Technical Committee work. The Project Manager will lead working sessions, organize project deliverables and report to the BCI Director of Regulatory and Technical Affairs. The Technical Projects Manager will coordinate meetings and working sessions, facilitate project participation and work product, and support the association’s technical programs and advocacy on behalf of its members. The Projects Manager is interested in and supports work in power/energy storage systems, smart grid engineering, as well as reliability and standards in the performance of power/energy systems. A degree or background in electrical or power systems engineering is a plus.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage projects and stakeholder engagement focused on power/energy technologies.
  • Coordinate activities among project participants including National Laboratory, University & Industry staff, capabilities & facilities, as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineers and researchers to drive project success.
  • Develop project plans, schedules, and budgets in accordance with BCI and, where relevant, grantor objectives and requirements.
  • Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for internal stakeholders and external partners to communicate assigned project status, milestones, and deliverables.
  • Conduct regular meetings with project teams to track progress, resolve issues, and ensure alignment with project goals.
  • Manage and participate in Association technical committees, division(s) and task forces/working groups comprised of member companies working on current industry issues.
  • Participate in relevant BCI and industry standards committees
  • Domestic and international travel, as necessary.
  • Manage resources effectively to optimize project performance and meet project deadlines.
  • Stay current with industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory requirements related to energy systems.
  • Prepare and present project updates, reports, and presentations to BCI leadership and key stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrochemistry, Physics, Chemical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field. Or a Bachelor’s degree in another field with extensive experience in project management in a relevant field.
  • PMP or other project management experience preferred.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in technical project management, preferably in a Research & Development environment.
  • Strong understanding of power/energy systems, particularly in the context of grid integration and energy storage technologies.
  • Familiarity with industry standards, regulations, and best practices related to energy storage, power/energy systems and grid requirements.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing complex projects from initiation to completion.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams and external partners to achieve project objectives.

This position routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, laptops, and smartphones. The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job:

  • Prolonged periods of time using a computer.
  • Ability to maintain concentration and work performance with frequent disruptions and in a work-from-home setting.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds of office supplies or materials.
  • Ability to travel at various times (approximately 30% of time) throughout the year, both nationally and internationally.
  • While performing this job the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, talk or hear.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to use required Environmental, Safety & Health equipment (e.g. respirators/masking) & protocols (hand washing, showering, detergent/soaps).
