Job Description

The base salary range for this position is dependent upon experience and location, ranging from: $142,000 – $177,000

Summary

The Project Director will manage assigned projects with a project team consisting of both Avangrid Project team members and seconded staff with guidance from upper management, introducing good management practices in line with the guidelines of the PMBOK and Avangrid’s internal procedures.

Project Directors are responsible for the assigned construction projects after the transition from the Development Project Managers, with the responsibility of managing all project activities until the completion of construction and transition to Operations.

The Project Director should monitor all aspects of the assigned projects with a view to critical paths, risks, mitigation plans and project recovery. The Project Director must evaluate and approve all contractual changes together with the Contract Managers and the Avangrid Senior management, prepare reports for senior management and to be a facilitator between the Project and the Senior Management.

Key Responsibilities

In addition to managing assigned projects, the Project Director will support new project managers in a consulting role and point them in the right direction when needed.

  • Directs project engineers and construction site managers to ensure that project milestones are met safely, on schedule, and within budget.
  • Responsible for negotiation and management of engineering, procurement, and construction (“EPC”) activities.
  • Responsible for owner’s project management during project implementation phases on multiple wind and thermal energy projects.
  • Leads a team of professionals who provide management / technical expertise and project support through design, construction, commissioning, and operations.
  • Provides periodic updates to company senior management group on project activities, progress, and issues.
  • Develop a safety awareness culture, emphasized at the personal workplace, within project designs and throughout construction and operation.
  • Assists with technical due diligence in conjunction with other departments.
  • Responsible for effective forecasting of Company’s capital budget spending on assigned projects.
  • Responsible for providing support to plant operations, including plant and process improvements, equipment acquisition, plant breakdown analysis, and recommending corrective actions.
  • Ensures process feedback mechanisms are implemented and utilized for identifying process efficiencies and improvements, including process and functional quality audits, and focusing on Company strategic initiatives.
  • Support onboarding and provide expert advice, as requested by new project managers.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management or related study.
  • 10+ years of Project Management experience leading large EPC industrial projects.
  • Ability to travel 50%.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PMP certificate.
  • Experience in Front End Loading (FEL or FEED) Gated processes.
  • Renewable industry experience.
  • A working knowledge of construction law, contracts, claims avoidance, insurance, and contract administration.
  • Effective negotiating and dispute resolution skills.
  • Proficiency using Primavera P6 and SAP.
  • Mentoring experience.
  • Ability to have positive and effective work interactions.
