POSITION – Union: Gas Fitter Apprentice (NYSEG- NY Norwich) (R-09943)
NUMBER OF OPEN POSITIONS: 1
LOCATION: NYSEG NY – Norwich
HOURLY RATE: $36.63- $40.49
Duties:
  • Under directive supervision does the less complicated maintenance and construction work on “”dead”” mains and services. Assists First Class and Second-Class Gas Fitters in the performance of their work. Under close supervision performs the simpler kinds of work on low- pressure live mains and services.
  • Will be expected to acquire knowledge and skills for advancement to Gas Fitter 2/C, in compliance with the terms of the Memorandum of Agreement Governing Gas Department Training and Job Progression.
  • Performs other related or less skilled work as directed.
Experience, Education and Special Information Required:
  • Should have had at least one year’s experience in the Gas Department or its equivalent.
  • Must have the ability to learn the work of the Gas Department as indicated by the appropriate test.
  • Must have completed high school or obtained a High School Equivalency Diploma recognized by New York State.
  • Must be familiar with Company’s Safety Rules, approved methods of resuscitation and be able to render practical First Aid.
  • Must be able to qualify for operator’s licenses as required by law.
  • Physical Qualifications:
  • Normal health, physique and use of senses as indicated by passing the required physical examination given by a Company physician, including color perception.
  • Strength and endurance adequate for arduous labor in all kinds of outdoor weather conditions.
Personal Qualifications:
  • Must be willing to work extra and/or irregular hours as required.
  • Must be willing to work under unusual or special working conditions and surroundings, as well as the normal working conditions pertaining to this job.
  • Must be particularly alert in observing hazards and avoiding accidents.
