Position Summary

Ava is seeking to hire a full-time Power Resources Analyst reporting to the Director of Origination, Power Resources. The Power Resources Analyst will play an important role in Avas objective of bringing clean, affordable power to its customers by assisting in managing Avas Resource Adequacy (RA) portfolio, engaging in procurement activities, and taking the lead on regular RA compliance filings. Additionally, the Power Resources Analyst will contribute to Avas Renewable Energy Credit (REC) and Carbon Free/emissions (CF) portfolio and associated compliance.

This role is ideal for an individual who has had exposure to the energy sector and wants to move into a more transactional role or an individual who has spent time in a transactional/business/analytical role and wants a role in energy.

Position Details

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Portfolio Management: Assist in owning and monitoring Avas Resource Adequacy (RA) position, and take the initiative to develop or work with consultants or internal experts to develop tools and systems related to RA position tracking.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Collaborate with Avas Scheduling Coordinator to submit timely and accurate RA compliance filings and assist in REC/Renewable Portfolio Standard/Carbon compliance filings.
  • Procurement: Issue solicitations and engage in bilateral procurement activities. Ensure procurement complies with Avas Energy Risk Management policy. Maintain relationships with power suppliers and other stakeholders.
  • Contract Negotiation: Negotiate contracts with counterparties using Western Systems Power Pool (WSPP) and Edison Energy Institute (EEI) contracting structures.
  • Settlements: Support the monthly settlement and invoice verification process.
  • Report positions to executive leadership and seek feedback and approval from senior leadership on procurement decisions.
  • Respond to data requests from Finance, Data Analytics, Local Development teams, or others.
  • Support other procurement and compliance activities within the Power Resources team.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelors Degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in energy, utilities, business, or similar field.
  • Preferred: Experience and familiarity with commercial contracts and terms, California energy markets, regulatory compliance
  • Experience with energy trading, analytics or policy a plus
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (including Excel and PowerPoint) and data visualization tools or related software.

Compensation and Benefits

The annual salary for this position is $103,004, with a Total Compensation of up to $109,184 annually based on performance.

Location and Working Conditions
This position will be based in Ava headquarters in Oakland, near BART. Ava’s team has a hybrid approach inclusive of in-office and remote work. This role is expected to go into the office Tuesday, Thursday, and the first Wednesday of the month. We are not providing relocation or sponsorships currently.

Licenses/Certificates
