ACEEE, a leading national research organization based in Washington, DC, seeks a transportation associate to conduct research and work directly with communities on implementation strategies to improve multimodal transportation choices and accelerate transportation electrification. Our efforts drive policy and program innovation among local and state governments, utilities, and critical private-sector stakeholders.

Position Description:

The associate will be a member of ACEEEs transportation program. They will provide research, analysis, outreach, and support to research initiatives and will work directly with local and state governments on projects that aim to transform the transportation sector.

ACEEEs transportation program covers a variety of topics, including electrification of freight and passenger vehicles, better integrated land use and transportation policy, stringent fuel efficiency standards, and improved multimodal transportation infrastructure.

The associates work will focus on cross-cutting approaches to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and creating a more equitable transportation system. Specific areas of interest include working with local communities to help under-resourced areas better access federal funding for transportation initiatives, establishing best practices for community engagement when developing clean transportation projects, and supporting state departments of transportation on equitable and sustainable approaches to project prioritization.

Requirements:


Core Responsibilities:

  • Oversees and provides technical assistance to outside stakeholders
  • Manages project tasks and corresponds with other project team members
  • Collaborates with other ACEEE teams and external partners on multi-sector projects
  • Participates in and/or leads committee and working group meetings
  • Writes blog posts and develops presentations
  • Contributes to ACEEE research

Expectations:

  • Expertise in transportation sustainability, multimodal transportation, and/or transportation electrification
  • Team-oriented with strong interpersonal skills, articulate, and thoughtful
  • Ability to participate in and contribute to cross-disciplinary research and teams
  • Experience providing technical assistance to programs and policies (federal, state, and/or local)
  • Ability to simultaneously contribute to several complex, fast-paced, multi-partner projects
  • Superb organizational and project management skills
  • Excellent writing and oral presentation skills

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated passion for clean energy, environmental issues, and social justice
  • Demonstrated ability to collect and disseminate large amounts of data and information
  • Experience with, or sound knowledge of, equity-driven clean energy policies and programs
  • Experience facilitating learning across networks or working groups of peer organizations, stakeholders, or representatives from diverse organizations/communities
  • Professionalism, poise, and the ability to work as part of a team, maintain a sense of humor, and interact with a diverse array of people, including high-level stakeholders
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills, both written and oral (including public speaking and presentations)

Required Education and Experience:

  • A degree in urban planning, city planning, transportation planning, public policy, economics, environmental studies, or another similar field
  • Bachelors degree and two to four years of experience, or
  • Masters degree and two or more years of experience, or
  • PhD

Preferred start date: July or August 2024. The position can be located in Washington, DC, or remote (US only).

Salary: The expected salary is approximately $58,000, with a range of $54,615 $70,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience. ACEEEs generous benefits package includes health, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance coverage; a 403(b) retirement plan; transportation and bike-share benefits; three weeks of vacation in the first year and four weeks thereafter.
