This Southern California facility located in Paramount, CA is the world’s first large-scale sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) facility. It highlights Air Products commitment to energy transition and supports California’s decarbonization by producing renewable fuels.

We are seeking a Project Engineer who is responsible for increasing operational availability and optimizing equipment life cycle cost. This role works collaboratively with the entire refining organization to develop, implement, and maintain the Company’s Engineering Practices and applicable RAGAGEP standards.

This role develops strategies to manage refinery assets at peak performance, optimize lifetime return on investment, mitigate reliability risk, supports capital improvements in support of long-term sustainable performance, and champions the troubleshooting, repair, overhaul, planning, and budgeting for rotating equipment including centrifugal pumps, reciprocating compressors, positive displacement pumps, large fans, and gearboxes.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Provide engineering support during project development (conceptual and feasibility phases) by rigorously vetting resource estimates, schedules, business benefits, environmental/health/safety impacts, and conducting comprehensive risk assessments for proposed development concepts
  • Conduct project feasibility and economic analyses, and prepare detailed budgets, cost estimates, and Decision Support Packages for funding authorization
  • Oversee and ensure compliance with project permitting requirements
  • Collaborate with external engineering contractors to develop comprehensive process design deliverables
  • Administer changes to plant equipment using established Management of Change (MOC) protocol.
  • Lead integrity projects for operational assets, ensuring modifications adhere to relevant industry standards
  • Partner with Operations, Maintenance, Environmental, and Business Development teams to develop and synchronize schedules for work on operational assets
  • Prepare and manage estimates, budgets, schedules, materials, contract specifications, procurement plans, and work plans for OpEx projects; track and report on project progress and performance
  • Review and manage financial commitments and expenditures, maintain accurate forecasts, and report on the monthly performance of OpEx projects
  • Consistently uphold and demonstrate a commitment to personal safety, the safety of employees, the general public, and the protection of company assets

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline preferred
  • 7-10 years of experience as a mechanical engineer, with expertise in fixed and rotating equipment and reliability, including at least 2 years of project execution experience, preferably in smaller OpEx project implementation
  • Previous supervisory experience with contractors, including contract engineers
  • Extensive experience in the refinery, petrochemical, or bio-fuels industry
  • Working knowledge of industry safety, design, and inspection standards and procedures for machinery
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, diagrams, and sketches
  • Proficient with engineering software
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as American Petroleum Institute (API) and American Society of Mechanical Engineering (ASME) applicable to maintenance and mechanical engineering in refining industry

This is a safety sensitive position. Must be able to wear appropriate PPE in the refinery and be able to physically perform all tasks in the field. The role is onsite at the Paramount, CA location with a standard 5/8 schedule Monday-Friday. This role supports 24/7 operations, and after-hours support is required approximately once per month. Travel requirement is less than 5%.

In California, the expected pay range is $136,470-$197,650 plus Company bonus. This is the pay range that we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
