The AES CE Team Lead of SCADA Engineering is responsible for leading, managing, and executing the operational SCADA Engineering functions to support the AES Clean Energy (CE) portfolio. This person leads a team of 3 engineers to support operational SCADA systems for Solar, BESS, Wind and Hybrid Power Plants. The team works with various SCADA vendors, O&M providers, equipment manufacturers, utilities, and internal teams to support enhancements to the AES operational projects from commissioning to end-of-life.

Main Responsibilities:

Perform Job Safety Assessments and Safety Walks to identify job-site hazards when traveling to sites.

Lead, mentor, and manage a team to support the operational portfolio SCADA systems for utility scale renewable projects split between various technologies and architectures (Wind, Solar, BESS, Hybrid, etc.)

Execute SCADA implementations through review and approval of vendor proposals impacting SCADA platforms for Solar, BESS and Wind technologies

Manage team to Improve SCADA integrations with technologies including Inverters, BESS, Wind Turbines, Trackers, Meteorological sensors and more

Support the operations and improvement of PPC (Power Plant Controller) control logic schemes to ensure plants meet requirements for curtailment, battery charge/discharge schemes, AVR (Volt-Var, PF, MVAR, etc.), Frequency Response, Substation Controls including Breakers and Capacitor Banks, PV Trackers, and more.

Oversee testing of telemetry and controls in accordance with operational requirements of interconnection utilities, ISOs/RTOs, PPA offtakers, Points Lists, Alarm Standards, HMI implementation, and Reporting functions to deliver operational requirements

Deliver on NERC Standard requirements, ISO/RTO/NERC data requests, and align with CIP/Internal Controls.

Collaborate with Information and Operational Technology teams to ensure proper equipment selection, project networking and reliable/secure connectivity

Close the loop between Operations and Engineering by recording and communicating issues that can be mitigated through better design, identify performance gaps

Manage Change of project enhancements to support operational or compliance objectives with documentation and approval within CMMS

As a domain expert and leader, advise other team members across the organization on standard methodologies for SCADA systems

This role participates in:

Meetings with O&M, Regional Leaders, COOs and Executives.

Participates in the budgeting process with O&M members , FP&A, Portfolio Asset Management and Commercial team.

Develop processes for the execution of safe, quality and high-performance projects

Educate team on changing trends in technology, standard processes and safety

Qualifications:

Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience in Engineering or technical field

5+ years of professional SCADA experience in Operations, Engineering or Project Management

Familiarity with grid interconnection SCADA telemetry and control requirements across various markets and ISOs including CAISO, NYISO, PJM, MISO and ERCOT

Experience in integration of relevant SCADA communication protocols, computer interfaces and media types: MODBUS, DNP3.0, OPC, Fiber, Serial, TCP/IP, Radio, including Substation equipment (RTACs, Relays, Meters), Array Devices (Inverters, Trackers, Met Stations, BESS) and remote RTUs from Utilities and other 3rd Parties.

Understanding of NERC compliance from the SCADA perspective.

Strong communication skills and ability to lead technical discussions among SCADA vendors and other team members.

Ability to work effectively with Microsoft software programs, including-but-not-limited-to Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to prioritize projects and tasks across team members

High degree of commitment to a quality safety culture and an incident-free work environment

Willingness to travel within the U.S. to support companys portfolio of PV solar/BESS/Wind assets and to attend meetings with customers, up to 10%

Plus Qualifications

Masters degree or equivalent experience in Engineering or Business

Experience with PV, Wind and Battery Energy Storage System

Understanding of NERC Compliance Standards

Spanish language skills

The expected salary for this position, at commencement of employment, is between $115.000 and $144.500/Annual; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements such as annual bonus, in addition to a full range of medical, dental, vision, life, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if a candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an at-will position and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
