Job Description
AES is accelerating the future of energy. We are looking for a Senior Analyst, Market Intelligence & Fundamentals team in the AES US Renewables commercial business. The Market Intelligence & Fundamentals team is responsible for developing the companys view via comprehensive analysis of North American energy markets. Our fundamental forecasts and long-term views support investment decisions in renewable projects (solar, wind, battery), and active management of current portfolio of assets. We are a data driven team that supports the commercial platform with fundamental market analysis, supply and demand assessment, and related economic research. More experienced candidates are encouraged to apply and may be considered for a wider role with more responsibilities. This role is in Houston, TX.

Main Responsibilities
Operate a commercial long-term expansion and zonal dispatch production cost model suite
Backcast historical market results
Analyze and judge model results to assist the team in refining modeling approaches for various policy tests
Prepare and present assumptions, process, and results for audiences at a variety of seniority levels
Document, automate, and harden data processes
Monitor relevant industry news and market rules changes
Evolve into a U.S. power market subject matter expert
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, Sciences, or equivalent
Advanced degree in an analytic field desirable
User ability and 1-3 years of experience with production cost models (e.g., AURORA, PLEXOS, PROMOD or similar)
Proficiency with large data sets, such as SQL or other database skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Strong communication and presentation skills, both written and spoken
Able to forge working relationships with multiple teams (e.g., strategy, trading, origination, engineering)
Able to manage multiple priorities efficiently and dynamically
Self-motivated and comfortable with some independent study/learning
