POSITION SCOPE

Primary purpose of the position is to prepare and review accounting and regulatory filings and supporting documentation to verify adherence to established policies and procedures with minimal supervision. This individual will prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, financial reporting information, and various regulatory filings in adherence with company policies and control procedures. Candidate will also help to oversee regulatory accounting compliance with the relevant State Commission Orders and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission as well as GAAP. The individual will also prepare Excel schedules and written testimony to be included in ratemaking filings and serve as an expert accounting witness for AES Indiana and AES Ohio. The job works closely with other groups within the Finance Department and other departments within AES, such as Regulatory Affairs, Legal, and Operations. This individual will be required to coordinate both month-end and periodic activities.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Records, classifies and summarizes financial transactions in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and the FERC code of Federal Regulations, i.e. journal entries and reconciliation reports
  • Reviews the work of others and provides training and other professional guidance to team members
  • Plans, organizes and prioritizes work assignments to meet required deadlines
  • Develops, prepares, audits and reviews reports and testimony on a regular monthly, quarterly and/or annual basis
  • Analyzes, reconciles and evaluates the accuracy of general ledger accounting details and ensures the amounts are proper and classified correctly
  • Monitors and ensures compliance with AES policies, internal controls and corporate policies
  • Research and analyze the impact of new or revised accounting standards and regulations on accounting and financial reporting
  • Reviews the work of others to constructively offer tips for improvement and for accuracy and control adherence
  • Provides mentoring, training and other professional guidance to team members
  • Works closely with department director to strategize personnel, accounting, reporting and regulatory decisions
  • Coordinate with internal and external auditors and respond to their inquiries

BASIC REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited college and/or university
  • At least seven years of accounting experience
  • In-depth knowledge of US GAAP
  • US utility regulatory accounting experience
  • Familiarity with the FERC Uniform System of Accounts
  • Strong Computer Skills
  • Exceptional organizational, analytical, oral and written communication skills
  • Results oriented, self-motivated, and able to work with limited direct supervision


PREFERRED SKILLS

  • CPA or Association of Chartered Certified Accountants preferred
  • Leadership experience

  • Performance as a Witness in a Ratemaking Proceeding
  • Working knowledge of SAP
