AES is seeking a Director, Project Controls for US Renewables. This roles primary responsibilities include overseeing internal Scheduling and Cost Management teams, Document Controls, and Labor Compliance Management. The successful candidate will have a depth of experience in the renewable energy industry, including functions related to project controls and management, construction progress reporting and data management, process improvement and change management and stakeholder management and have an ability to work in a dynamic, fast paced environment. This position can be based remotely or in an office, reporting to the Vice President of Preconstruction, and will focus on DG and utility-scale solar and battery storage projects.

Key Responsibilities:

Responsible for reporting, planning and directing Project Controls functions, coordinating and collaborating with the full Project Team from Early-stage Development through Project Completion and Handover to Operations:

  • Scheduling Management:
    • Oversees Scheduling team to ensure development and maintenance of the US Renewables schedules for all advancing development and construction projects
    • Ensures the teams identification and evaluation of emerging risks to the schedules
  • Cost Management:
    • Oversees Cost Management team to ensure effective tracking of project performance against budgets
    • Develops robust reporting mechanisms to feed-back project cost performance to internal Estimating and Preconstruction Project Management teams
  • Document Control Management:
    • Oversees Technical Writer in maintenance and modification of the form EPC Agreement
    • Develops advanced understanding and application of contract commercial terms and coordinates with Contract Management function
    • Coordinates additional Document Control work needed within the Preconstruction and Continuous Improvement teams to facilitate document organization
  • Labor Compliance Management:
    • Develops and manages a Labor Compliance function within US Renewables to support Execution Project Management in compliance with relevant labor regulations

The Project Controls Director must be able and willing to develop robust data systems and reporting to facilitate review of project status across all Controls functions. This role will also interface with full Preconstruction teams (Preconstruction Project Management, Estimating, Execution Strategy) to incorporate market data and Lessons Learned.

Experience/Qualifications/Education Requirements

  • 8+ years progressively responsible experience
  • Experience in the renewable power industry with significant wind and/or solar energy management experience strongly preferred
  • BS degree in specialized field required, advance study in Project Management and/or MBA desired
  • Excellent understanding of project cycle including feasibility, permitting, easements/encroachments, design and utility processes and EPC contracting
  • Outstanding social skills, including internal collaborator management and ability to maintain professional and effective exchanges with team members and outside parties
  • Excellent organizational skills proven by clear and effective project plans and executive level reporting
  • Proficient in MS Office suite of products and scheduling software (MS- Project & Primavera P6)
  • Demonstrates alignment with AES Values
  • Strong computer and analytical skills
  • Willingness to travel up to 10%

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:

Work may be occasionally performed in an office environment or in the field. Must be able to sit, stand, bend, twist, and lift up to 20 pounds. Ability to travel as needed.

The expected salary for this position, at commencement of employment, is between $170.000 and $221.000/Annual; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements such as annual bonus, in addition to a full range of medical, dental, vision, life, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if a candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an at-will position and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
