This Director position will lead the ERCOT & SPP Markets for AES Clean Energys Solar and Storage projects. The successful candidate will lead and manage all development activities including a team of supporting developers. Key responsibilities include serving as Market Lead to help define and implement the market strategy in alignment with corporate objectives; guide the team in preparation and management of budgets, forecasts, project schedules, project and portfolio management to achieve corporate objectives; drive team collaboration with internal subject matter experts to prioritize and complete project siting, land acquisition, project permitting, site studies and diligence, managing the interconnection process, engineering, estimating, EPC strategy and commercialization together with due diligence and assistance for project acquisitions, collectively to ensure projects successfully reach construction commencement on time, on schedule and in alignment with corporate objectives.

This position will reside within AES Clean Energys project development group and will work in close collaboration with AES Clean Energys new products team. The position can be remote based or utilization of AES Clean Energys various office locations including Louisville, CO; Salt Lake City, UT; Houston, TX; Arlington, VA. The role requires the ability to manage multiple project portfolios, attention to detail and travel as needed. The successful candidate will work on a cross functional team with new product development, origination, commercial, legal, finance, engineering, construction, and outside consultants, landowners, customers, project collaborators and utility companies. The role requires project management knowledge and expertise with solar, and storage technologies. Experience in successfully developed at least 1GW of renewables which have been constructed and are operational required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Hands-on team leader.
  • Deliver annual strategic objectives for ERCOT and SPP markets.
  • Lead, in collaboration with subject matter experts all aspects of project development from site origination or acquisition through to construction commencement.
  • Coordinate closely and collaboratively with internal subject matter experts.
  • Develop and manage project development schedules and budgets.
  • Lead project meetings with internal and external customers.
  • Manage contract obligations in key project documents.
  • Support and coordinate land acquisition efforts as needed.
  • Support discretionary permitting including permit strategy, tracking permit efforts, working with local AHJs, presenting at permit hearings.
  • Support delivery of site and environmental studies, surveys and diligence reports.
  • Work with internal and external Engineering teams as they progress engineering and design.
  • Work with internal construction management team on contractor selection process.
  • Coordinate with construction management team on securing ministerial permits.
  • Handoff projects once fully developed and permitted to the construction management team.
  • Participate in project financings answering relevant diligence questions and providing required documents.

The expected salary for this position, at commencement of employment, is between $170.000 and $221.000/Annual; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements such as annual bonus, in addition to a full range of medical, dental, vision, life, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if a candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an at-will position and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
