Aeris Services is currently looking to hire a Wind Turbine Maintenance Tech-Level III independent contractor who can be available on weekends and has the ability to travel for projects. The Wind Turbine Maintenance Tech-Level III independent contractor role includes performing routine maintenance on wind turbines with junior and senior level techs. This role will require travel between assigned projects. Below are the responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and teach all maintenance assembly terminology and processes.
  • Performs routine preventive maintenance on wind turbine mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems.
  • Performs troubleshooting and repairs on wind turbine mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems.
  • Recognizes the occurrences of wind turbine error codes and appropriately reports the problem.
  • Lead in the removal and installation of wind turbine mechanical, electrical and hydraulic components.
  • Lead in the rigging and directing of heavy equipment (crane).
  • Perform component retrofits and upgrades.
  • Engage closely with clients and team leaders.
  • Provide quality services to customers.
  • Performs maintenance and repairs of wind turbine controllers.
  • Teach Tech I and II and verify required reports and other paperwork, including computer data entry as needed.
  • Perform maintenance and repair on high-voltage systems.
  • Maintain adherence to Company policies, safety standards and good housekeeping practices.
  • Cleaning and maintenance of hydraulic and manual tools.
  • Demonstrates the ability to learn sophisticated troubleshooting and repair of wind turbines.
  • Support Lead in site preparation (i.e. coordination of labor and materials).
  • Lead in rigging, derigging operations, and inspections of equipment.
  • Ability to travel between projects.
  • Provide limited supervision to others through motivation, direction, review, and feedback of assigned tasks.
  • Acts responsibly and professionally.
  • Utilizing hydraulic tools for torque.
  • LOTO (Log out, tag out).
  • LPS system/test troubleshooting.
  • Collection of grease and oil samples.
  • Laser alignment (Generator and pitch system).
  • Inspection, maintenance, and repair of wind turbines.
  • Maintenance of switchgear, pitch systems, yaw, generator, CCU and other turbine components.
  • Work on other wind turbine systems, including substations and underground transmission systems.
  • Demonstrates experience with GE, Vestas, Nordex and/or Siemens turbines.
  • Demonstrates experience working with GE, Vestas Nordex and/or Siemens SCADA systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to understand and follow customary instructions in order to perform the essential functions of the position in a satisfactory manner.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED, required.
  • 5-8 years of experience in the wind industry.
  • Post high school education (i.e. wind school, trade school, college) highly preferred.
  • Certified GWO required.
  • Blade work experience required.
  • GE LOTO Certificate highly preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.

Desired Skills And Competencies

  • Mechanical and electrical O&M wind energy skills.
  • Knowledge of Technical Trade, Maintenance, Electrical, Instrumentation and/or Operations is strongly preferred.
  • Certificate and/or Associates of Applied Science in Wind Turbine Technology highly preferred.

Physical & Environmental Requirements

  • Ability to climb 60-125 meters in height, ability to lift, push/pull and carry items up to 50 lbs., and the ability to stand, stoop, kneel, and bend for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to grip and manually manipulate, often with repetitive motion, items such as, but not limited to, hand tools, turbine parts, comfort working in confined spaces and at heights over 100 meters and use equipment with a maximum weight capacity of 300 lb.
  • Having efficient field of vision including visual depth perception and ability to distinguish colors.
  • Able to work in demanding physical and inclement weather conditions.
