About the Role:

The Cost Accountant will be responsible for managing job costing, cost control, and financial reporting for our solar and renewable energy projects. This role will ensure accurate tracking of project costs, effective cost management, and timely financial reporting to support decision-making and project success. This position will also involve managing accounts receivable functions, including contract administration, invoicing, and collection activities.

Key Responsibilities:

Job Costing and Control

Track and analyze costs related to solar and renewable energy projects, including labor, materials, and overhead.

  • Prepare and maintain detailed cost reports and forecasts specific to renewable energy projects.
  • Monitor project budgets and expenditures, identifying and addressing variances in the context of renewable energy initiatives.
  • Collaborate with project managers and departments to ensure accurate cost allocation and reporting for solar and renewable energy projects.

Cost Analysis and Optimization

  • Analyze cost data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for cost reduction in renewable energy projects.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to improve cost management and project profitability.
  • Support budgeting and forecasting processes for solar and renewable energy projects.

Financial Reporting

  • Prepare financial statements and reports related to the performance and profitability of solar and renewable energy projects.
  • Assist in the month-end and year-end closing processes, including reconciliations and adjustments for renewable energy projects.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies.

Accounts Receivable

  • Administer and manage contract billing schedules, ensuring compliance with project contracts and payment terms.
  • Prepare and issue invoices for solar and renewable energy projects in accordance with contractual terms and milestones.
  • Monitor accounts receivable aging reports and follow up on overdue invoices, including managing contract-related payment disputes and adjustments.
  • Maintain accurate records of all accounts receivable transactions, including contract amendments and change orders.

General Accounting Support

  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes specific to the renewable energy sector.
  • Collaborate with internal and external auditors during audits related to solar and renewable energy projects.
  • Provide financial analysis and insights to support decision-making and project management.

Software Utilization

Utilize QuickBooks for managing day-to-day accounting tasks, including invoicing, expense tracking, and financial reporting.

Requirements:

Desired Qualifications:

  • Passion for sustainability and the renewable energy industry
  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, MS or MBA preferred
  • 3+ years of related experience
  • Proven experience in job costing, project accounting, and accounts receivable, in the EPC, solar or renewable energy sector.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, including GAAP, and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks and/or Construction ERP systems, including reporting
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent proficiency MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook)
  • Accounting certifications helpful
  • Ability to work onsite in Malta, NY Monday-Friday
  • Unrestricted work authorization for the US and high written and verbal English proficiency

Compensation:

The likely compensation range for this position is $70,000-$90,000 plus a discretionary bonus based on individual and business performance. Your actual salary may be above, in, or below this range, depending on your qualifications and experience.
