Job Summary:


The Project Manager applies project management framework and uses an interdisciplinary process to ensure that customer and stakeholder needs are satisfied. Responsibilities include working with leadership both within and external to the Department in the translation of strategic goals into tactical action plans, identification of key data elements, and ensuring the collection, interpretation and reporting of results in collaboration with key stakeholders. The position will collaborate with leaders, providers and staff to design, implement, and monitor improvement solutions and implement strategic initiatives and goals. The incumbent will become familiar with all potential sources of data inputs. Under the direction of the Department Director of Information Technology and the Department leadership team, this position will interact with leaders, clinicians, educators, researchers, front-line staff and other stakeholders from throughout UW-Madison and UW Health.

Responsibilities:

Manages multiple projects simultaneously from start to finish or one large project impacting the institution at-large under general supervision.
  • 30% Creates a project plan, monitors progress and performance against the project plan, and identifies, resolves, or escalates risks and issues
  • 10% Manages the activities of outside contractors to ensure they are integrated into the project and that the organization receives satisfactory standards of service
  • 10% Facilitates the estimation of project costs, resources, and time required to complete the assigned phase of a project and monitors activities, negotiates for resources, and assigns tasks to ensure these targets are met. Follows established change control processes if targets can no longer be met
  • 20% Prepares regular reports to communicate the status of the project within and beyond the project team
  • 10% Sets priorities, allocates tasks, and collaborates with project staff to meet project targets and milestones
  • 20% Coordinate the strategic initiatives supporting the People and Environment missions as part of the Department’s
    Strategic Plan.

Required:
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in project management or project oversight
  • Experience coordinating projects and meetings

Preferred:

  • Demonstrated success in driving projects forward to successful completion and delivery of results
  • Experience in budgets/finance
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
  • Experience working on projects with cross-functional teams
  • Experience working in an academic medical setting or other healthcare setting
  • Ability to interpret and analyze data to effectively communicate with stakeholders
  • Knowledge of Lean and Six Sigma tools, or other process improvement practices
  • Demonstrated success with oral and written communications/presentations, project and team

facilitation, and results-focused

  • Ability to work independently and cross-functionally with minimal direction in a fast-paced, matrixed environment

This position requires some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

The starting salary for the position is $74,000 but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
