About the Department
The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at North Carolina State University (Raleigh, NC) is among the largest and most prominent in the nation. The department offers Bachelor of Science (BS), Master of Science (MS), and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees in both Mechanical Engineering (ME) and Aerospace Engineering (AE). The department also offers accelerated BS/MS degrees in both programs.

Current research specialization in MAE includes dynamic systems and controls, vibrations, biomechanics, design optimization, smart materials and structures, precision engineering, MEMS and NEMS, advanced manufacturing, aerodynamics, UAV flight research, materials, renewable energy, combustion, hypersonics, propulsion, space exploration systems, and computational fluid dynamics.

The MAE department currently boasts 45 tenure-track faculty, six non-tenure track faculty, and 18 staff. The faculty is highly recognized with seven National Science Foundation CAREER Award recipients, four NSF RIA recipients, one NASA Early Career Faculty Award recipient, four ASME Fellows, seven AIAA Fellows, 20 members in the NC State Academy of Outstanding Teachers, and five named professors.

The MAE Department has an enrollment of over 1,300 undergraduates and 400 graduate students, and has conferred over 4,000 degrees since 2000. The department is housed in Engineering Building III, a four-story, 250,000-square foot facility built in 2010. An annex houses wind tunnels, an anechoic chamber, internal combustion engine dynamometers, and additional research labs. NC States location on Centennial Campus, combined with its proximity to the Research Triangle Park and neighboring universities, provides extensive opportunities for academic and industrial interaction and collaboration.

Essential Job Duties
The Marketing and Communications Office at MAE is responsible for the departments public relations and marketing strategies and handles all public-facing activity within the department, which includes the following:
  • Departmental website management
  • All department marketing and advertising both internal and external
  • Manage all department social media channels
  • All multimedia content for websites and social media (news stories, videos, photography, Announcements)
  • All marketing material design and production (department brochures, event programs, yearly magazine, guided tour pamphlets, etc.)
  • Live video and audio production for live events like distinguished seminars, Hall of Fame ceremonies
  • Departments physical branding and design
  • Work with alumni and industry partners on expanding department activities and involvement.
  • Some event planning responsibilities including planning large events like POP Back and Departmental Graduation Ceremonies
The Marketing and Communications office at MAE aims to maintain and improve the quality of the departments public relations, marketing and communications strategy. This is done through a variety of multimedia projects and content production for departmental websites, social media accounts, print productions like our yearly magazine, and more. Our mission is to guide MAEs Marketing and Communications strategy while fostering a welcoming, creative and collaborative community on NC States Centennial Campus.

This position will report directly to the MAE Communications Manager and will support the MAE Marketing and Communications Office primarily through graphic design along with content production and management. This position will be responsible for all major graphic design responsibilities and will adopt further responsibilities within the marketing and communications office as befitting their skills and interests ideally managing the social media channels, assisting in photo and video assignments, and assisting in website management.

Other Responsibilities
Other duties will include assisting in the overall public relations and branding strategy of MAE, helping with event organization, and working with the Communications Manager to develop a marketing strategy through innovative campaigns and active engagement within the departmental academic and professional communities.
Qualifications
Minimum Experience/Education

Bachelors degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Other Required Qualifications
  • The ideal candidate would have a love for graphic design and an eye for branding trends and consistency.
  • We are seeking someone who is passionate about design quality and is excited to develop new strategies for improving the departments branding and communications efforts.
  • A strong foundation in design software such as the Adobe Design suite and must be able to be adaptable in learning new ways to improve the marketing and communications offices use of these tools.
  • This position is built for an innovative and creative individual who enjoys working on a collaborative and welcoming team, and wants to explore new ways to improve the department, college and university marketing and communications platforms and projects.

  • Experience in graphic design, preferably in both digital and print mediums.
