The Opportunity

  • Laboratory Analyst at a growth-oriented energy company
  • Work as part of team to complete testing on refinery samples including regulatory, critical fuel specifications, and unit operation parameters in a fast-paced, high throughput manufacturing laboratory.
  • Work with a diverse background of people including unit operators, engineers and chemists
  • Opportunity to train on a wide range of instrumentation including Octane engines, Gas Chromatographs, numerous physical and reactive property analyzers.
  • Reporting to the Laboratory Supervisor you will provide exemplary customer service to our clients.

Key activities include:

  • Conduct testing in a laboratory setting
  • Follow all established procedures (ASTM, AMS, AASHTO, Internal SOPs, etc.)
  • Automated instrument setup multitasking
  • Data entry into LIMS system
  • Data review against source documentation
  • SQC testing
  • Instrument Troubleshooting
  • Interface with other analysts and supervision
  • Prepare chemical reagents used within the Lab and in Process areas
  • Change gas cylinders and reference fuel drums
  • Flag unreasonable or suspicious results and notify proper authority
  • Collect samples of various finished products from spheres, bullets and tanks, which may include climbing stairs or ladders
  • Document in communication books where applicable

Qualifications

To meet the basic qualifications for this role, you will have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship.

Additional qualifications include:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelors degree preferred
  • Minimum of 15 semester hour credits of college level chemistry or 1 year of experience in a laboratory setting required. Experience in a refining, petrochemical, or manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to have flexible work hours and be available for callout
  • Able to pass background screening
  • Able to pass a drug screening
  • Basic computer skills including data entry into LIMS system
  • Follow all laboratory and refinery safety rules
  • Respond in a timely manner to all Laboratory communications including verbal, email, phone, and written communication
  • Drive vehicle to pick up samples and supplies, deliver reports, and fill gas tank
  • Able to adjust to changing workload and priorities
  • Able to be flexible; assists in other work areas on own initiative as time allows and work prescribes

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged walking and/or standing while performing analyst duties
  • Able to lift and/or move heavy objects on occasion
  • Able to bend, kneel, stoop, twist, climb stairs on tanks (approx. 40 ft.)
  • Able to push or pull heavy objects weighing more than 25 lbs. or requiring more than 25 lbs. of force
  • Able to obtain materials and samples located overhead and at ground level inclusive of the range in between
  • Able to make careful finger movements for data entry and to operate instruments
  • Able to grasp objects with fingers and palm to manipulate samples and equipment
  • Able to make repetitive movements with arms or hands such as shaking and stirring.
  • Able to discern one color from another
  • Able to hear and see well
  • Should not be sensitive or allergic to chemical odors, hydrocarbons, or common office supplies
  • Able to work outdoors (for sampling of products)
  • Able to use small hand tools
  • Able to climb stairs and not be afraid of heights (sampling)

Our Refineries and Logistics Operations
