Based in the Twin Cities, RJM Construction has more than 150 staff members and an annual construction volume of $256 million. We specialize in community, healthcare, corporate, and multifamily projects, serving clients throughout Minnesota and neighboring states. Our expertise includes general contracting, construction management, design-build, and preconstruction services. We currently have an opening for an MEP Coordinator. This is a hybrid position, requiring regular in-office contact with team members and contact with clients.
The MEP Coordinator is a multi-faceted role which includes strong understanding of various systems and project types, direct client contact, providing project technical expertise and oversight to bidding, estimating and technical support with the preconstruction department. This role may be involved in design, commissioning, and other aspects of projects, always ensuring the clients’ best interests are met. The successful candidate will have strong communication skills and be able to act as a liaison between trade partners, project teams and clients. Supports MEP design and coordination for assigned projects from preconstruction/estimating through build, commissioning, occupancy and post-occupancy.
ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Provide MEP solutions during the course of preconstruction, inclusive of diverse solutions and analysis to meet the client needs and budget for the project life cycle.
- Coordinate with the RJM preconstruction, operations team, and client team to understand various MEP systems and delivery method.
- Participate in preconstruction tours and document existing systems and conditions via photographs and detailed notes including capacities and system types.
- For design-build and design-assist projects, develop MEP scope narrative and RFP for review by the preconstruction team.
- Coordinate RFP process including communication with MEP subcontractors.
- Compile, summarize and present MEP proposals for review by the preconstruction team and client team.
- Coordinate documentation between the preconstruction team, Virtual Design lead and project management team during the bid process, design process and throughout the project build.
- Assist the RJM project management team with phasing and schedule planning, permit process, and MEP questions/clarifications throughout the build process.
- Attend on-site and virtual project meetings as needed, take detailed notes and distribute to all stakeholders.
- For critical MEP installations perform on-site MEP quality control inspections and document progress via photographs and notes.
- Energy Design and Assistance (EDA) knowledge and coordination of EDA documentation with the project team.
- Act as a liaison and MEP scope expert between parties working on the project including trade workers, project superintendents, field staff and project team.
Education:
- Bachelor of Science degree in engineering (ABET accreditation is preferred)
Work Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction or design industry.
- Must have previous experience in construction or design of MEP systems.
- Knowledge and experience with design-build and subcontractor bid process.
- Ability to read and understand complex plans and specifications in both PDF format and 3D virtual design format.
- Understanding of Construction Systems and CSI codes
- Conceptual MEP estimating skills preferred.
- Knowledge and experience with MN B3 program, SB2030, USGBC LEED program, Net Zero Energy programs, is desired.
Demonstrated Technical Competencies to include:
- Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Project
- Takeoff and mark up software experience such as On-Screen Takeoff and BlueBeam and Adobe PDF
- Project management software such as Viewpoint
- Web based collaboration and documentation software such as Sharefile and Autodesk Cloud
- CAD and 3D CAD software such as ACAD, Revit, and Navisworks
Demonstrated Professional Competencies to include:
- Excellent time management and prioritization skills with ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of many MEP system types as well as how these systems are controlled and interact with each other
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of system sizing, capacities, energy usage, energy efficiency, and system optimization
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of utility systems and coordination with construction
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Professional Certifications or Licenses:
- NCEES EIT (engineer in training) desired
- PE (professional engineer MN) desired
