Position Summary
As a Project Manager in Clean Energy Transportation, you’ll lead a team of project managers to implement electric vehicle infrastructure across our service area. Your role will involve overseeing both internal and contractor-led electrical work, ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget. You’ll monitor project portfolios, manage metrics, engage with customers, and assist with reporting. You’ll also collaborate with colleagues to integrate new EV programs into existing frameworks, as approved by regulatory bodies.
This hybrid position offers flexibility with a blend of remote work and on-site responsibilities, primarily based in Oakland, CA. Some travel (up to 15%) may be required.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee a portfolio of projects, ensuring timely and budget-compliant delivery with a focus on safety and minimal environmental impact.
- Forecast and manage project costs to align with budget targets.
- Address and resolve project issues proactively to stay on track with cost, scope, and schedule commitments.
- Ensure consistency and alignment across all projects.
- Work closely with client organizations to understand project scopes and assign appropriate project managers.
- Set expectations, metrics, and tracking tools for project managers to measure performance.
- Develop and implement strategies for balancing internal and external resources.
- Regularly review project statuses, focusing on larger or higher-impact projects.
- Collaborate with technical teams to enhance overall group operations and processes.
- Stay updated on project management best practices and recommend process improvements.
- Supervise and support staff through recruitment, training, performance management, and recognition.
Qualifications
Minimum:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Six years of relevant experience in technical project or program management, preferably in the utility industry, or three years of supervisory experience in project management or construction.
- Certified Project Management Professional (PMP).
Desired
- MBA or advanced degree preferred.
- Knowledge of electric transmission, distribution networks, and substation systems.
- Strong project management skills and familiarity with project management concepts and techniques.
- Proven leadership in driving work progress and improving processes.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to influence, collaborate, and build strong relationships.
- Proficiency in MS Office, project scoping, and cost estimating.
- Familiarity with commercial electrical work, NEC code, and union contracts.
- Financial acumen and experience with contingency cost estimating.
- Experience negotiating and managing contracts for engineering, procurement, and construction services.
- Knowledge of SAP, SRM (Sourcing) systems, P6, Salesforce, or similar project management tools.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, develop employees, and foster a safe work environment.
- Skills in developing streamlined policies and procedures, managing budgets, and supporting company goals.
